J&J Innovation Centers (ICs) are in the process of being opened in San Francisco, Boston and London. The goal of the ICs is to create a critical platform to compete for the top medical innovations at universities and biotech companies allowing Janssen to build the best pipeline in the industry. Operating close to where the greatest innovations occur will give us early access and better insights to make our investment selections. This will allow us to increase our probability of success in on-boarding new products.

The J&J Innovation Centers are recruiting for a Finance Director, located in London, UK.

The Finance Director will partner directly with Innovation Center Leadership on all external innovation activities. Direct all Financial related activities for Innovation Center (including deals, operations, and approvals). Builds and maintains regional networks with external innovation community business and finance counterparts. Shapes Innovation Center business model, including governance, strategy, structure, and incentive mechanisms. Will help implement business, finance, and operational processes that will enable J&J to truly harness external innovation. Regional management of external innovation portfolio to maximize value creation. Will advise IC Leadership Team on deal structure negotiations with external innovation partners. Consults with senior management on strategic planning and financial issues. Will benchmark competitive innovation models, structures, and deals. Develops and implements performance metrics to measure IC success. Facilitate strategic financial alignment across multiple stakeholder groups / sectors

Close and manage value creating innovation deals and successfully transfer to businesses.

The Finance Director is responsible for regional priority / direction setting, alignment, and strategy in line with sectors/businesses and senior leadership expectations. The Finance Director is responsible for evaluation and prioritization of investment opportunities for the Region in coordination with Global objectives. Will be responsible for due diligence, evaluation and approval of all Innovation Center investments and Innovation center investment and financial/budget management. The Finance Director for external innovation in the region accountable to IC Leader and CFO for Innovation. Responsible for the regional external innovation portfolio to maximize value creation for J&J globally and across all sectors. Responsibility with IC lead and center leaders for innovation center / investment success including value creation, reputation, deal structures, etc. General financial and operational management of Regional Innovation Center. Innovation Center financial reporting (management and legal), SOX, audit, tax, contract and healthcare compliance for IC.

Qualifications


A minimum of an MBA or candidate in the process of receiving an advanced degree is required. A minimum of 8 years related experience is required. Must have outstanding analytic ability, preferably an understanding of complex deal structures, external partner experience, a clear understanding of value creation, and a proven track record of success in ambiguous and complex environments. An experienced, well rounded finance leader is needed.
