Description
- Directs, develops and implements program activities focused on understanding customer requirements, gathering insights and designing/development/manufacturing (when applicable) of new medical devices in compliance with Federal/SFDA and Company guidelines.
- Explore cross technology platform opportunities within surgical areas.
- Work with cross-functional team members to lead development of project plan and budget, key deliverables, and timelines to ensure timely completion of program.
- Manage day-to-day operational aspects of project teams to ensure progress.
- Selects, develops and evaluates staff.
- Provides on-going performance management and periodic formal evaluation
- Facilitates career movement and development opportunities for engineering staff.
- Manages IP for the program in the areas of product clearance, offensive and defensive infringement and patent protection.
- Maintains and enhances working relationships with existing design surgeons and customers.
- Develops effective working relationships with FDA and other appropriate Federal agencies.
- Guides technical staff on company related technical, policy, training, business issues and professional development.
- Supports base business development and technical support activities.
- Problem Solving/ Decision Making: Under limited supervision from the Vice President, R&D, makes decisions which impact product development activities (launches, applied research projects, R&D strategies, surgeon relations), budgets, marketing strategies/tactics sales results, customer/sales force relations.
- Interpersonal contacts with all departments within MD&D Franchise/Opco, MD&D Franchise/Opco sales force, surgeons, vendors, regulatory agency personnel.

Qualifications

- B.S. in Biomedical related degree, with 5 years progressive experience in research and design of medical devices/instrumentation. MBA and/or PhD a plus.
- Minimum 2 years R&D supervisory/management experience in medical device industry. Minimum 5-10 years product development experience as an individual contributor in medical device industry.
- Demonstrated ability to build lasting cross-functional relationships, including strong influential and communication skills
- Ability to comply with the Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations
- Ability to effectively utilize both written and oral communications formats when making presentations resulting in the obtainment of departmental/MD&D Franchise/Opco goals and objectives
- Ability to design and apply effective professional/personal development plans for staff which result in enhanced job competencies and motivation
- Ability to manage and allocate resources to assigned projects which result in completing projects on time and within budget
- Ability to apply current FDA and SFDA design control regulations.
- Ability to practice and integrate the SOL into all business practices and activities.
- Ability to effectively use coaching, mentoring, negotiation and conflict resolution skills to ensure delivery of product and technology portfolio.
- Problem Solving/ Decision Making Skills.
- Good computer skills in professional area.
