Provides direction for development and enhancement of homecare coding functions throughout the Region. Represents homecare in region-wide efforts to meet regulatory requirements for coding patient diagnoses. Manages functions performed by the homecare coding department including: educating and assisting agency QA Coordinators, serving as a resource for coding for all agencies, ensuring compliance with ICD Coding conventions and regulatory requirements, and tracking/monitoring statistics related to coding functions . Ensures high quality and consistency of diagnosis coding across the region through establishment and implementation of quality assurance activities. Establishes effective working relationships with Regional and KP-SoCal leadership, HCBU, Agency intake and nursing staff, and other users of coding information.
Essential Functions:
- Participates in the development of policies/procedures and education programs related to coding issues within Home Care.
- Coordinates implementation of process improvement procedures and evaluates outcomes.
- Serves as the primary resource to the Region for coding matters, questions and issues.
- Oversees the local coding staff and oversees the home health, hospice and palliative care coding processes and procedures for all Agencies.
- Ensures compliance with Medicare, Medical and other third party pay or requirements for coding.
- Stays current with changes in coding methodology and home health and hospice regulations effecting the coding function and reimbursement.
- Reviews clinical records for documentation to support diagnoses.
- Assigns appropriate codes and sequencing to patient diagnoses.
- Works with clinicians regarding inconsistencies in documentation and coding questions.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in home health care with proven knowledge of reimbursement requirements.
- Minimumof two (2)years of supervisory experience.
- Bachelor degree is required.
- Certification in Home Health Coding required.
- In-depth understanding of Medicare Conditions of Participation, OASIS and home health documentation Leadership, mentoring and motivational skills Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with people who have varied backgrounds.
- Strong organizational, planning, problem solving, decision-making, and leadership skills.
- Computer skills and ability to use word processing, data base, spreadsheet, etc. applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current CA RN License preferred.
