The Tumor Registry Manager is the head of the Regional Tumor registry Department responsible for assuring the cancer statistical reporting is managed according to quality, State laws, National accreditation requirements, and customer requirements.
The Manager is the key facilitator for quality health initiatives related to managing cancer population data and follow up care.
The Manager laterally coordinates with other supervisors, managers, clinicians, and leaders within Kaiser Permanente Northwest and KPNW alliance plan hospitals to assure cancer health information is available when needed for the delivery of patient care.
The Manager is responsible to be innovative in providing quality information resources and guidance for members, individuals and other organizations through strengths of the registry structure and enhance professional standards to improve outcome.
The Manager serves as a member of management and is the primary link between management and employees. Serving as an advocate for employee issues to management and the primary communicator, implementer of management direction, goals and decisions.

Essential Functions:
- Provides strategic guidance & direction on the executive committee of the Regional Cancer committee. Expedites completion of the yearly cancer report. Data management for cancer studies
- Liaison to KPNW Cancer Program to ensure accreditation requirements of the American College of Surgeons/Commission on Cancer (ACos/Coc) are met
- Facilities KPNW health initiatives resulting in improved outcomes by monitoring and reporting cancer care & follow up. Implements, evaluates screening programs to improve early diagnosis of cancer. Establishes programs to ensure follow-up of abnormal tests in which a diagnosis of cancer is suspected
- Serves as liaison for KPNW w/State & National regulators managing cancer population data & follow up care
- Establish & supervise the ongoing quality assurance programs that achieve regulatory compliance, community standards of care & regional quality standards.(e.g. abnormal surveillance system)
- Manage Tumor Registry to ensure preparation for the American College of Surgeons/ Commission on Cancer Survey & compliance w/State laws (cancer is a reportable disease)
- Develop budget for two cost centers, recommend & justify resource needs. Provide periodic reports of budget variance
- Analyze work methods & utilization of resources in a cost effective manner. Directly mange the strategic plan & implementation of efforts to improve work methods, productivity & utilization of resources
- Coordinate & promote effective use of Tumor Registry services w/in KP system
- Analyze problems & formulate solutions using effective communication skills w/providers, department managers & other related personnel
- Directly manage personnel, following established KP policies and procedures & prescribed management and personnel practices. Perform monthly rounding requirements. Motivate & maintain trained, professional employees. Ensure proper documentation of work functions
- Establish & maintain strong shared values, programs, policies & practices that ensure providers receive high quality, appropriate & accessible caner data
- Organize and manage department training protocols & materials for a quality program
- Initiates recruitment, training and retention program & practices to ensue the availability of competent Tumor Registry technicians. Coordinates recruitment & program parameter w/HR & Community Education Resources
Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a Tumor Registry staff position
- Minimum of 3 years experience as a supervisor of Tumor Registry in a managed healthcare setting or equivalent
- Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR)
- Equivalent associate's degree in medical record science w/demonstrated experience in accreditation and regulatory requirements; managed health care experience
- Maintain continuing education in cancer care management and ACoS/CoC standards
- Effective communication principles including conflict resolution, problem solving, team building, and negotiations
- Strong written and verbal communications skills to communicate with a diverse population of people from varying backgrounds
- Ability to make presentations to various professional and public groups in formal, informal, and impromptu situations
- Self starter, highly motivated and independent worker
- Demonstrated ability to operate and mange office automation systems and communications.
- Ability to motivate and organize work groups and serve as a role model
- Ability to respond calmly and professionally in stressful situations
- Demonstrated ability to strategically plan and prioritize Tumor Registry Services with limited resource and time allotments
- Organize and mange information and work

Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years recent experience in a Tumor Registry in a managed healthcare organization
- Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in manage healthcare organization
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and technologies of Tumor Registry functions as outlined by State Law and National bachelor's degree in a health care, information technology or management related field
- Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, knowledge of cancer/medical diagnosis and treatment
- Information technology and systems literate
- Computer software/hardware skills for various programs including word processing and spreadsheets. Ability to operate and trouble shoot Tumor Registry computer equipment and systems

Salary Range:
$66,740 - $91,460
