Under indirect supervision, assists Nuclear Medicine Physician in performance & evaluation of clinical procedures including preparation, calibration & administration of radioactive drugs. Performs quality assurance procedures on all equipment & operates complex imaging & non-imaging systems. Assists authorized users in radionuclide therapeutic procedures & applies radiation health & safety knowledge to all facets of job. Provides patient education & quality patient care. Maintains courteous, cooperative relations when interacting w/ public, Health Plan members & others.
Essential Functions:
- Performs tests to evaluate proper function of all imaging & non-imaging systems, as well as equipment used in patient care & radiation surveys; records results of evaluations appropriately; recognizes & reports malfunctions of all systems
- Performs appropriate receipt surveys of radioactive materials; verifies order is correct; logs receipt information appropriately; stores materials consistent w/ safety regulations
- Confirms quality of radiopharmaceutical; prepares kit products in accordance w/ accepted techniques & official standards; records utilization of all radioactive materials appropriately
- Performs diagnostic imaging procedures; selects appropriate parameters for imaging data acquisition
- Performs imaging views according to established protocols; selects additional views necessary to optimize value of study; recognizes artifacts which degrade image & initiates appropriate action
- Operates counting equipment; selects appropriate settings for procedure; counts samples & standards; performs calculations; applies appropriate formulas in obtaining results; presents results in appropriate manner of graph or ratio
- Provides for proper patient care during procedure; establishes & maintains good communications w/ patient; explains procedure; answers questions
- Administers radiopharmaceutical dose by prescribed route (intravenously, orally, or by inhalation)
- Assists licensed physician in therapeutic application of radionuclides; assures correct radiopharmaceutical is prepared in prescribed dosage; obtains verification by licensed physician; maintains radiation safety procedures during preparation & administration of dosage
- Assists physician in supplying proper radiation safety instructions to patient, patient's family & hospital staff; assists physician in conducting radiation surveys of designated areas
- Complies w/ radiation protection policies of institution, local, state & federal agencies; uses personal monitoring devices appropriately; uses proper shielding techniques to reduce radiation exposure; performs personal surveys to detect inadvertent contamination or exposure
- Performs surveys at regular intervals to determine radiation or contamination in work area; performs decontamination procedures in appropriate manner; identifies & stores contaminated material in accordance w/ regulations; maintains appropriate documentation of these actions
- Performs other duties & accepts responsibility as assigned

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
- One year (2,080 hours) of general radiology experience as a registered technologist, including experience or successful completion of training program (pre-hire, post-hire, or on-the-job) in area of specialty, if applicable
- Two years (4,160 hours) of nuclear medicine technology experience
- Experience in radiopharmaceutical management; quality control of instruments; operating imaging equipment (planar and SPECT) and non-imaging equipment and radionuclide therapy administration
- Associate's degree in nuclear medicine technology
- Valid Hawaii Nuclear Medicine Technologist license (must meet education requirement(s) for Hawaii State licensure)
- Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or Registered Nuclear Medicine Technologist (RT)(N) with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in adaptability, oral communication, written communication, interpersonal relations, customer service, problem solving, systems thinking, change management, and decision making
- Talking to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, and on the telephone
- Reading, writing, speaking and understanding English
- Training/giving and receiving instructions
- Mathematical ability, attention to detail (e.g., organization, prioritization, proofing), concentration, and alertness
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in nuclear medicine technology
- Demonstrated knowledge of SPECT imaging, nuclear cardiology imaging, and Siemens and ADAC imaging
