Under the supervision of the Radiology Supervisor, performs a variety of MRI procedures & departmental support functions.
Essential Functions:
- Performs MRI examinations of the brain, body, spine & extremities on patients of all ages effectively adjusting scanning parameters for different patient body habitus. Selects & modifies technical factors to enhance images; uses flare & SAT imaging techniques. Determines appropriate equipment for scanning up to but not limited to body coils.
- Identifies gross pathology in the human body & adjusts T1 & T2 scanning parameters to provide pertinent information for interpretation. Adjusts parameters of equipment to minimize risk factors to self & patient.
- Effectively performs Diffusion studies, MR Angiograms, reformats & MIP imaging. Performs specialized exams i.e., MRA runoffs & post arthrogram work ups.
- Effectively uses magnetic resonance & adjusts parameters to minimize exposure to patient & self. Follows established protocols & effectively uses scanning techniques to include, window & contrast levels, scanning time sequences, scanning delays, scanning thickness, FOV, scout images, reformatting, image reconstruct & 3-D image re-construct. Photographs, archives & retrieves images.
- Is certified to start & remove IV lines for contrast studies per established departmental policy & procedure. Identifies & responds to IV contrast reactions up to & including calling emergency personnel. Proficient in the use of an IV Contrast Power Injector.
- Identifies each patient, reviews each patient's requisition & previous studies for consistency (examination ordered/clinical diagnosis), & records pertinent data on MRI requisition at all times. Responsible for performing comprehensive screening of patients & other individuals before allowing them to enter the MR system room.
- Effectively explains, knows, & informs anyone entering the MR system room the danger associated w/ implants & devices, in addition to pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), & loose objects.
- Reviews each examination for technical accuracy, presents completed examination to radiologist, & communicates pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of the patient following the procedure.
- Identifies anatomical orientation on all required images & ensures proper film identification on all images.
- Maintains daily patient MRI 'log' documenting correctly & accurately patient information to ensure the quality of patient care.
- Patient's full name
- Patient's member number
- Patient's physician
- Type & amount of contrast used
- Examination performed
- Demonstrates ability to organize patient care & set priorities by providing critical care first & by implementing the physician's orders.
