Under direct supervision, performs a variety of tasks to ensure proper set up and delivery of meals and supplies for patient and non-patient food service. Receives food and supplies and stores in appropriate storage areas.
Essential Functions:
- Reviews, corrects & checks status of patient's menus, nourishment's, tube feeding, & test meals for compliance w/ current prescribed diet order, food preferences, nutrition adequacy, age specific needs, cultural background & religious practices.
- Visits patients - collects patient menus, records patient preferences, delivers trays, & stock supplies.
- Assembles trays & disposable items for patient tray set-up & ensures accuracy by matching printed tray ticket to the correct food & beverage items.
- Measures food portions into individual servings.
- Labels & dates all food items.
- Heats & serves trays as assigned.
- Timely delivery of all food & supplies required for catering, on-call doctors or other non-patient feeding.
- Deliver trays, tube feedings, snacks & required supplies to appropriate patient care units & non-patient areas.
- Monitors the accuracy of the tray related to the MNT or diet order according to diet manual.
- Checks for quality of product & is responsible for corrections & quality follow-up w/ manager/supervisor, staff, or vendor.
- Fills out the appropriate log, report & needed repairs according to local protocol.
- Reports patient food station &/or department equipment malfunctions per facility protocol.
- Cleans & sanitizes all work areas, equipment, storage areas, unit kitchens, & maintains these areas in a sanitary & orderly condition as designated by local protocols.
- Checks & records food temperatures & appropriate control point to ensure and maintain all foods at appropriate temperatures according to HACCP standards.
- Stores products in appropriate storage areas.
- Rotates food products using 'FIFO' method (used foods first in are used first).
- Stocks patient food stations w/ standard items according to predetermined stock levels.
- Checks the quality & appearance of all food & supplies received.
- Reports discrepancies to supervisor/designee.
- Assists in training new employees as necessary.
- Perform other related duties as necessary.
- No supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Six (6) months of related experience in an acute care or skilled nursing facility preferred.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Knowledge of therapeutic diets preferred.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other individuals within the organization.
- Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.
- Refer to Position Specifications outlined in the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
