Responsible for conducting non-invasive vascular studies including ultrasound.
Essential Functions:
- Performs non-invasive vascular studies on patients with cerebrovascular, arterial, & venous problems in Vascular Laboratory to include complete examination of carotid & vertebral systems (upper & lower extremity arterial & venous systems & arteriovenous fistulae).
- Prepares diagnostic testing protocols for patients with cerebrovascular, arterial, & venous disease.
- Reviews patient histories & physicals for pertinent information aiding in final evaluation of test data through knowledge of cerebrovascular, arterial & venous diseases.
- Prepares test data for analysis.
- Maintains equipment & vascular database.
- Computes & interprets statistical parameters associated with diagnostic test validation, including sensitivity, specificity & accuracy.
- Performs various office functions including screening consults before appointment service; schedules patients, orders supplies & contacts service departments of respective ultrasound companies when equipment needs maintenance.
- Establishes & maintains courteous, cooperative relations with public, patients, & other personnel.
- Performs other related duties & accepts responsibility as assigned.

Secondary Functions:
- Travel required to locations in MD, VA & DC as needed.
- Demonstrated sufficient knowledge, skills, & abilities in area of specialization & appropriate to age groups served.
- Knowledge with basic epidemiology of prominent disease processes of cerebrovascular, arterial & venous systems, including knowledge of risk factors.
- Knowledge & competency in following: Physics of ultrasound waves & their interaction with human tissue for evaluation of blood flow in vessels & imaging of blood vessels; Principles of operation, signals & information provided by all commonly used vascular diagnostic equipment; Anatomy, physiology, & hemodynamics of cerebrovascular, arterial & venous systems.
Qualifications:
Will travel to medical centers in the DC/MD/VA area on an as needed bases.
Basic Qualifications:
- 1 year of vascular experience required.
- 1 year of ultrasound experience required.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Graduate from approved ultrasound training program recognized by CAHEA required.
- Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonongraphers (ARDMS) required.
- BLS certification required.
