Under general supervision of the registered nurse and in collaboration with other members of the health care team, CPCA assists in the provision of basic patient care in accordance with their training and certification.
Essential Functions:
- Provides or assists with patient care delivery, clerical functions, telemetry monitoring, & provision of unit support through a variety of functions
- Provides basic nursing care needs to assigned patients & makes visual observations reporting abnormalities in accordance with established nursing procedures & policies
- Documents patient observation & direct care information to patient's medical records
- Take assignments accurately
- Works as a team member with the assigned RN & other health care workers to provide care
- Manages electronic medical records, including accurate processing of admission, transfer, & discharge/orders
- Handling of important documentation i.e.: Medicare letter, implant cards, Advance Directives, etc
- Acts as a communication liaison for the Unit/Department, greets new patients, families, & visitors, & manages multi-line phone systems
- Visit each assigned patient at the beginning of the shift/assignment & report observations to the RN
- Make rounds on assigned patients at least every two hours, observing & reporting changes to the RN
- Use the multidisciplinary plan of care as a guide for individualized patient care & teaching as directed by the RN
- Identify discharge barriers & communicate to RN
- Assist with or provide activities of daily living (ADL's) including baths, linen change of occupied & unoccupied bed, dressing, feeding, providing water, grooming & home hygiene, AM & HS care, mouth/foley/peri-care
- Perform bladder scanning, straight cath (mini-cath) in & out of adults- 18 years
- Collect specimens & record specimen collection
- Reinforce pulmonary hygiene including use of incentive spirometer, maintain oxygen, & connects patient to pulse oximeter
- Provide nourishments; monitor& set up NG feedings, G-tube feeding or J-tube feeding for the nurse to administer
- Administers minor treatments & procedures such as, but not limited to, EKG test administration, non-medicated enemas (Harris flush, soap suds), non-sterile dressing changes; sitz baths, apply ostomy appliances to old, healed sites; perform oral suctioning; safely apply heat/cooling measures; perform surgical preps; complete pre-op checklist
- Perform wound cleaning & irrigation, & apply simple dressings
- Apply CPM machine, sequential stocking
- Perform POC testing & quality control checks
- Provide bed exercises, including range of motion & positioning, & assist patient in ambulating when necessary
- For each patient, documents care provided, including but not limited to: oral intake, all output, vital signs, weights, & measurements in a concise, accurate, legible & timely manner in the medical record
- Transports patients for transfer, discharge, or other needs as directed
- Provide post-mortem care
- Maintains prescribed standards of cleanliness & organization for assigned work areas replenishing stock supplies as necessary
- Remove faulty, non-functioning equipment from service, label, & report to the appropriate personnel
- Order supplies & equipment as needed.
- Enters equipment repair requests in EMSR
- Comply with patient safety practices/policies
- Comply with nursing department policies regarding patient rights & restraints
- Participates in providing appropriate emergency procedures as indicated
- Respond to codes & other life-threatening situations as appropriate or directed
- Demonstrate understanding of assigned role in external/internal disasters

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Six (6) months of work experience in a health care setting.
- High School graduation or GED.
- Completed Certified Nursing Assistant II program approved by the Oregon State Board of Nursing (copy of certificate required).
- Successful completion of a basic arrhythmia recognition competency course no more than two (2) years prior to hiring date, and / or successful completion of an equivalent EKG arrhythmia test upon hire, and annually thereafter.
- Certification from Oregon State Board of Nursing, CNA II
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers.
- Computer keyboarding skills.
- Type 25 words per minute (finalists will be required to pass).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a hospital setting preferred.
- Clinical experience preferred.
Salary Range:
$18.09 - $ 22.35
