LifeScan Scotland was created in 2001 when Johnson & Johnson acquired the UK assets of Inverness Medical Ltd, a medical device company established in Inverness in 1995 to design and manufacture glucose test strips, and design electronic meters for the global diabetes market. Around 1,100 people are employed at the Inverness facility, which is regarded as a centre of excellence for those working in the field of diabetes.
With a focus on future development, LifeScan is committed to "creating a world without limits for people with diabetes." LifeScan Scotland's main product range includes the popular OneTouch® Brand of blood glucose monitoring systems, which is available globally. The company has also developed diabetes management software, control solutions and lancing devices and, in addition, produces the specialist test strips that work with many of the meters in the OneTouch Brand line.

The Facilities Manageris responsible for all aspects of facilities management. Compliance with all environment, health and safety, government ordinance, Good Manufacturing Practice and J&J regulations and achieve LifeScan Scotland strategic goals. Support and deliver cross functional initiatives as defined within Facilities Goals & Objective's
Responsibilities Include:
Department Leadership:
- Develop the necessary organization and infrastructure to meet Company and functional objectives
- Responsible for the development and implementation of improvement and productivity strategies for the team to drive out waste and cost
- Engagement with site management team and customers
Development Activities:
- Ensure all compliance requirements are met
- Develop Programs to meet J&J building specs, energy goals, environmental MAPs, health and safety, etc.
Personnel:
- Define personnel strategy, balancing outsourced services, contract employees, and regular employees
- Leadership, management and development of staff, including participating in goal setting, performance management and personnel development
Operations:
- Plan facilities needs for increased capacity with Manufacturing, R&D pilot groups, and Manufacturing Systems Engineering
- Maintain plant and utilities to be within operating specifications at all times
Finance:
- Provide recommendation of annual budgets, including headcount predictions, operating expense and capital requirements
- Monitor and report expense and capital budgets
- Manage all contracts, PO's, and invoices with outsourced services, construction companies, and contractors
Quality:
- Ensure that Plant and Facilities meet the site and sector quality and compliance objectives
- Comply with all J&J reporting requirements within GMP standards
Management:
- Management of activities of the team within budget guiding the team to deliver to cost, quality and delivery targets
- Responsible for the quality, timeliness and effectiveness of all activities in support of operations
- Manage projects to deliver benefit to the business and to maintain Business Continuity
- Responsible for management of all contractors hired in support of projects or other activities within the team to ensure that we get best value and activities completed on time
- Ensure compliance with environmental, waste disposal, and other safe practices for experiment execution
Qualifications
Essential:
- Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or other related field
- Major Project management
- Facilities design
- Proven experience in leading Facilities Engineering and project Engineering Programs
- Project and department organization success
- Leadership skills
- Organisational skills
- Excellent communicator
- Develop Operational Support Programs
Desirable:
- Advanced technical degree
- Financial expertise
- Understanding in depth of FDA requirements
- Relationships with WW J&J Engineering
