Computational Systems Immunologist-00000A3B

Description

The immune system is of great interest to pharmacological research, not only because of its role in limiting the progression of infectious diseases and tumors, but also because perturbations of the immune response are the cause of autoimmune diseases.

The C.R.E.A.Te functional area of Janssen R&D is looking to employ a computational immunologist who can provide predictive quantitative modeling and general bioinformatics support to the drug discovery teams that work in disease areas impacted by immunology.

Primary Duties:

- In close collaboration with experimental and clinical colleagues working in disease areas impacted by immunology, integrate available data from various sources into predictive quantitative models (including ODE/PDE based models). Perform and validate simulations with these models to test hypotheses and optimally inform the drug discovery process.
- Contribute to the design of new experiments and studies to validate models and/or collect new data to refine the models.
- Analyze and integrate high-dimensional data, preferentially those compatible with single cell analysis, e.g. cytometry, high-content imaging derived features, single cell sequencing, ….

Qualifications

- PhD in Computational Biology/Bioinformatics or a related field, with three years of relevant post-doctoral experience in a academic or industrial setting.
- Strong programming and scripting skills that enable the development of functional prototypes
- Demonstrated experience with ODE/PDE based modeling and related predictive approaches that support hypothesis driven simulation
- Experience in the analysis of genomics, proteomics and/or flow cytometry data using R/Bioconductor or similar software.
- Experience in handling high-dimensional single cell data, e.g. cytometry, high-content imaging derived features, single cell seq, … is a plus
- Working experience in a biological context that has to account for immunological influences e.g. auto-immune diseases, infectious diseases, oncology, … is highly desirable
- Excellent communication, reporting and team working skills, yet able to work independently
