POSITION SUMMARY

The Safety Specialist will coordinate and execute environmental and/or safety programs to ensure practical, cost-effective measures are in place within the workplace and that a Safety Culture exists to ensure employees are accountable and responsible for health, safety, and environmental conditions and practices. The Safety Specialist ensures daily employee compliance with government laws/regulations and also Nestlé policy. The Safety Specialist handles more difficult, complex assignments involving performing daily audits/inspections and assists Department Managers in the development of procedures based on regulatory and/or company requirements. The Safety Specialist assists the Managers with reports of injuries or facility safety opportunities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
-Analyze SH&E conditions and recommend changes to continuously improve facility SH&E performance.
-Develop and implement processes and procedures (SOP's) to ensure facility compliance with company and regulatory agency policies ' including federal, state, and local legislation and also regulations pertaining to worker safety and preservation of the environment.
-Administer training programs for safety accident prevention, protection, and environmental management systems.
-Lead, coordinate, and participate in all incident investigations.
-Through active participation, lead the facility to adopt a ZERO TOLERANCE MENTALITY toward SH&E losses and drive culture within the framework of ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.

REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL
-B.S. degree in science discipline, chemistry preferred.
-Ability to accommodate day/night/weekend work based upon the needs of the facility and/or management direction.

EXPERIENCE
-Five or more years in an analytical chemistry or microbiology laboratory environment.
-Sufficient experience with analytical food related methodology (AOAC, etc.).
-Experience with Safety and Environmental program development, implementation, training.
-Experience with OSHA and EPA regulations and application in operations.
-Knowledge of Hazardous and Infectious Waste Management.
-Experience with DOT Hazardous Shipping Regulations.
-Environmental analytical experience preferred.
-Demonstrated proficiency in use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
-Working knowledge of ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
