Under indirect supervision, perform a variety of housekeeping duties and maintain the environment of assigned area and the facility, using approved housekeeping methods and procedures. Provide guidance and training for housekeeping staff. Make recommendations to the supervisor regarding staffing, supplies, equipment, and work and performance standards.
Essential Functions:
- Function as a working member of the housekeeping staff as follows.
- Clean all environmental surfaces such as walls, floors, ceilings, windows, sinks, permanent fixtures, movable fixtures, furniture, etc. using appropriate cleaning agents in an accepted and safe manner.
- Replenish supplies of soap, towels, and other dispensable items.
- Operate equipment such as dust mops, mops, wringers, vacuums (wet and dry), ladders, buffers, floor care and carpet cleaning orderly, and sanitary environment.
- Collect, handle properly, and dispose of all trash and soiled linen.
- Move furniture and equipment as assigned using proper equipment and safety procedures.
- Clean all entry ways as needed.
- Oversee and direct work activities of the housekeeping staff.
- Ensure facility is satisfactorily cleaned.
- Prepare daily assignment and special project schedules to include established routine duties as well as special areas to be cleaned.
- Maintain and ensure adequate service to all areas at al times.
- Tour facility on routine basis alone and with supervisor, covering each assigned area to observe cleaning staff at work and to determine that instructions are followed, safety rules observed, and that established departmental standards are observed.
- Establish departmental standards in concert with supervisor.
- Inspect facility premises to determine state of cleanliness and ensure that disposal of trash and garbage meets safety and health sanitation regulations.
- Provide input regarding performance reviews and disciplinary actions.
- Communicate with supervisor on routine problems such as inoperative equipment, facility/engineering problems, and routine requests from other departments.
- Follow and instruct staff to follow security procedures to maintain personal safety and building security.
- Confirm that building is secure before leaving at end of shift.
- Report any security problems such as unlocked exits, suspicious persons, etc. to the Security Department and/or the Housekeeping Supervisor.
- Serve as a resource regarding staffing levels, knowledge of cleaning supplies and procedures, and correct use of supplies and equipment.
- Recommend changes in staffing levels, supplies, equipment, and work and performance standards.
- Monitor and control equipment and supply utilization.
- Maintain appropriate level of supplies and linens, determine and order supplies and linens in types and amounts most suitable and cost-effective for the facility.
- Train staff in use of equipment, supplies, and cleaning methods to provide most efficient, cost-effective methods of maintaining the facility.
- Maintain awareness of new cleaning techniques and products.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of janitorial experience (environmental hygiene) required with commercial/medical experience preferred.
- Record of dependability.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to understand, follow and give oral and written instruction.
- Ability to accept responsibility for assigned area and work without direct supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to manage staff, establish and organize work assignments and schedules, and teach proper use of all housekeeping equipment and supplies without direct supervision.
- Must be or become a member of Local 49.
