Coventry is currently seeking a Paralegal to work with Corporate Legal team.  This position will be located at our Bethesda, MD corporate office.

 


This Paralegal position requires health care compliance or regulatory experience.  This is not a litigation paralegal position.  In this role as Paralegal you will research and analyze legal issues, statutes, and regulations that affect Coventry with respect to its managed care operations. Draft documents and gathers data in conjunction with regulatory filings, and legal correspondence arising from the managed care operations. 
 

 

The ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES of the Paralegal will be:


    - Maintains an awareness of trends, developments and governmental regulations in health care and managed health care organizations.
    - Analyzes and interprets existing and proposed legislation and regulations and determines their effects to the Company.
    - Researches state and federal laws as assigned by attorneys and serves as a resource to staff for review and implementation of benefit and policy statements.
    - Prepares, drafts, and files plan certificates of coverage and any other information required by the federal and state agencies.
    - Reviews and responds to subpoenas served on Coventry or its subsidiaries.
    - Obtains and maintains various company insurance related licenses.
    - May conduct internal audits to assess compliance with company policies, state and federal laws and regulations.
    - May monitor the implementation of state and federal laws and regulations. Conducts appropriate reviews to ensure policies and procedures comply with enacted laws and regulations.
    - Assists attorneys with state and federal regulatory filings.
    - Prepares reports, contract provisions, and correspondence in consultation with in-house counsel.
    - Analyzes data regarding Coventry’s and its affiliates’ third party administrator, insurer and utilization management operations and files regulatory reports relating to the same.
    - Edits, rewrites, and proofreads agreement provisions and other legal documents.
    - Organizes documents and files as requested by attorneys.
    - Performs other duties as required.

    Qualifications:

    The ideal Paralegal will possess the following:


      - High school degree or equivalent.
      - Completion of a paralegal or legal assistant training program or equivalent experience required.
      - Previous (3-5 years) experience in a legal environment including experience as a paralegal or legal secretary.
      - Demonstrated ability to perform analysis and legal research to identify and clarify issues.
      - Effective verbal and written communication skills.
      - Familiarity with regulations and statutes impacting the managed care environment.
       

      This position requires excellent communication, attention to detail and proficiency with standard corporate software packages, strong analytical and problem solving skills, and the ability to work in a fast paced environment.
