Kaiser Permanente's Care Management Institute (CMI) is seeking a Senior Consultant who supports
effective execution of quality improvement design research projects primarily focused on key CMI initiatives aimed at improving patient, family, and staff experiences as well as clinical processes.
The Senior Consultant will lead field work projects using ethnography and related design methods and coach and train others on these and related methods. Although this role is anchored in ethnography with use of video, this individual will participate in different types of analysis and various phases of quality improvement projects including field work, design, communication, and translation of insights into action to catalyze improvement and change across Kaiser Permanente's health care delivery systems. The individual in this role will further build capacity for video ethnography and storytelling as well as other tools and approaches spreading across KP that are enabling us to bring the patient and staff voice more fully into our quality improvement efforts.
Required skills and experience for the position:
- Strong working knowledge and experience with design research, and/or qualitative social science methods, human centered design, and quality improvement.
-Experience applying qualitative program evaluation methods in a health care organizational setting, including: developing pragmatic study designs, case studies, ethnography, and/or participatory qualitative data collection methods that incorporate client team members into the field alongside with 'researchers'.
-Background in one or more of the following: design research, health services research, policy analysis, innovation and design, quality improvement, and/or organizational management and consulting.
- Working knowledge of Kaiser Permanente and/or the internal workings and operations of medical centers, hospitals, and/or clinics a plus.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills required; strong coaching and adult teaching/learning skills needed.
- Working knowledge and abilities in using video and/or visual design for applied research projects desired and demonstrated ability to acquire skills and other analytic tools as needed required.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Five (5) to eight (8) years of related experience.
- Four (4) year degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience required.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Consider clinical expertiseneeds.
- Thorough knowledge of policies, practices and systems.
- Complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards.
- Full knowledge of industry practices.
- Broad application of principles, theories, and concepts in applicable discipline, plus working knowledge of other related fields.
