GENERAL SUMMARY



In this position you will be responsible for overall account management including retention, in-growth, and the sale of new products and services into existing accounts of 300 or greater employees. Individual will work directly with the employer and/or through national consultants. Accountable for achieving company defined sales objectives.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

-
Develops and implements annual Account Management plan within specified format guidelines. Plans should provide sufficient detail to direct daily activity and measure success rates.

Develops relationships with senior management at client, as well as with consultants, emphasizing health care benefits decision-makers.

Actively engages clients and consultants in meetings and events which lead to increased membership and sale of additional benefits into the account (up-selling).

Responsible for reviewing financial and underwriting principles and methodologies with clients in conjunction with renewal planning. Ensures compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations.

Responds to all client requests for information, and directs client inquiries to appropriate  departments. Manages overall client relationship and coordinates client relationships with other Coventry departments.

Exploits opportunities to secure business for other Coventry plans. Assists in compiling competitive information.

Responsible for new group installation and open enrollment as assigned.

May supervise daily activities of internal managers. Monitors and analyzes the team's performance against measured service operation goals.

Coordinates development of customized benefit offerings with Product Development, Pricing, Regulatory, Legal and other internal departments.

Attends internal account management meetings, training and examinations.

-
Majority of time is spent external to place of business on outside sales related to (retaining  and/or renewing) membership.

Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

-
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Master's degree preferred.

-
Appropriate state licensure to sell insurance required, subject to product sold.

-
Thorough understanding of managed care principles, underwriting  and  account management process. Preference for previous exposure to training and advanced sales techniques.

-
Demonstrated track record of success in large commercial account management of benefits products. Significant experience (usually 3-5 years) in managed care required.

-
Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills 100% ethical sales approach; motivated by desire to please customer. Strong analytic and problem-solving abilities.
