This role manages a process or a team of Actuaries who establish market rates; reserve estimates; trend projections;and other financial determinations for assigned markets. Advises; counsels and makes recommendations onissues and policies affecting the company. Performs complex analyses with little supervision.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
' Provides leadership and direction to a process or actuarial team. Recruits; develops; and motivatesstaff. Initiates and communicates a variety of personnel actions including employment; termination;performance reviews; salary reviews; and disciplinary actions.' Manages the quantitative assessment of risk relating to market premium rate levels; new productdevelopment; provider contracts; and IBNR in accordance with regulatory and professional guidelines.' Applies knowledge of mathematics; probability; statistics; principles of finance and business to risk andtrend analyses.' Analyzes; summarizes; and reconciles statistical data. Conducts special studies.' Explains methodology to appropriate parties.' Identifies and analyzes the internal and external factors which affect statistics for use in trending; pricing;reserving; contracting; etc.' Advises; counsels and makes recommendations on issues and policies affecting the company?sactuarial; underwriting; and financial practices.' Ensures the accuracy of work assigned through the development and use of reconciliation techniques.' Designs specific studies and research projects as requested.' Tests new actuarial; underwriting; and financial applications.' Performs other duties as required.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS' Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.' Substantial experience (usually 6+ years) in an analytic department with at least 2 years of experiencesupervising professional employees and/or complex projects.' Knowledgeable of all federal and state laws and regulations professional standards and current managedcare practices.' Strong team building skills and ability to manage and develop a group of professionals with diverse skills.Strong written and verbal communication skills; extensive knowledge of analytic methods; statisticaltechniques; marketplace dynamics and alternative pricing scenarios.'
