It?s a great time to put the strength of Coventry Health Care behind your career! Coventry is currently seeking an Underwriting Manager based in our Atlanta; GA office. In this position; the Manager will establish department policies and practices; provide oversight and lead a group underwriting team; partner with your Health Plan leadership team to ensure that the overall profitability; growth; and other company goals are met. Responsibilities for this position include:Provide leadership and direction to underwriting team. Recruit; develop; and motivate staff.Initiate and communicate a variety of personnel actions including employment; termination; performance reviews; salary reviews; and disciplinary actions.Set the tone and direction for the team to follow. Evaluate what needs to be done to meet the goals and act to eliminate the obstacles to success. Establish relationships that are solid both internal and external in support of the business. Present and address concerns regarding our rate development internally and externally with large employers; brokers; or consultants. Design; develop and implement policies and procedures that ensure high quality and error free rates and reports. Ensure that rates and reports are developed that are consistent with Coventry policies and legal requirements. Partner with other business lines to develop and maintain high quality databases to allow consistent use of data for multiple purposes to include pricing and reporting to employers; product analysis and business planning. Develop and implement a quality control program to ensure that rates quoted will generate expected revenues. The ideal candidate will have: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.Substantial experience (usually 5+ years) in an analytic department with at least 2 years of experience supervising professional employees. Familiarity with standard industry rating methodology; funding devices; and federal and state laws and regulations relating to pricing and patient confidentiality. Strong demonstrated team building skills and ability to manage and develop a group of professionals with diverse skills.Demonstrated leadership skills and a proven track record of success. This position requires strong written and verbal communication skills; extensive knowledge of analytic methods; statistical techniques; marketplace dynamics and alternative pricing scenarios; strong project management skills; understanding of purchaser rating criteria and cost justification; computer literacy (MS Word & Excel experience) and the ability to work in a very fast paced environment with minimal supervision.
