DePuy Orthopaedics is the Joint Reconstruction business offering orthopaedic devices, solutions and supplies for hip, knee and extremity reconstruction, in addition to cement and operating room products.
The Product Development Engineer-Commercialized Product Development will be responsible for ensuring that form, fit, function, and ease of manufacture are satisfied during the product design process. The translation of design inputs into innovative, novel, and robust design solutions is a central activity of this role. Furthermore, a key responsibility is ensuring that appropriate verification activity is completed to provide evidence of a successful design. The candidate will work closely with product development engineers and marketing to translate user needs, generate design concepts, produce prototypes, perform design evaluations (such as tolerance analysis, FEA, simulated use testing, etc.), and support development of product validation plans and testing.
The Product Development Engineer- Commercialized Product Development will work with manufacturing engineering and suppliers to optimize designs for manufacturability and produce prototypes. The candidate must demonstrate proficiency in the application of design standards, 3D modeling, and drafting standards using NX. The candidate must have a demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage a varied workload, exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills and interface effectively with project teams and surgeons. The individual will also be expected to develop an expert knowledge of our product lines and detailed knowledge of various musculo-skeletal pathologies.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline is required. A minimum of 1 year work experience in product design / development or engineering and/or Co-op experience in the orthopedic environment is required. Experience in design and development of medical devices (orthopaedics) is an asset. Candidate must have demonstrated expertise in various types of mechanisms, materials, GD&T, and drafting standards. Proficiency utilizing the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is required.
The candidate must have a demonstrated background in developing creative solutions to solve design problems. A successful track record working within a cross-functional teams is preferred. Must have the ability to effectively communicate concepts, ideas and knowledge to other individuals, surgeons, customers and/or teams, and work effectively as a team member. The ability to review and critically assess patents and other forms of intellectual property is preferred. This position may require up to 10% or more travel both domestic and international. This position will be based in Warsaw, IN.
