Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems Inc. provides account management and customer support services to key health care customers, including hospital systems and group purchasing organizations, leading health plans, pharmacy benefit managers, and government health care institutions. The company also provides contract management, logistics and supply chain functions for the major Johnson & Johnson franchises.
Johnson & Johnson Customer & Logistics Services (CLS) is a global Supply Chain organization that supports operating units across all of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies. They currently have a position open for a Principal Environmental Health and Safety Engineer located in Memphis, Tennessee.
CLS strives to deliver an exceptional customer experience through leading critical customer facing-functions such as distribution and transportation. In addition, CLS oversees critical business enablers, including how we gather and manage supply chain master data, safe and secure supply chain practices, product identification standards, and market/channel access capabilities. CLS supports all three sectors of Johnson & Johnson: Medical Device & Diagnostics, Pharmaceutical, and Consumer Products. This team is represented in multiple countries, and continues to grow globally in both visibility and responsibility. The CLS team reports to Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain and partners closely with groups throughout the supply chain organization.
This position requires knowledge of environmental, health and safety practices and regulations within warehouse and office environments. This role will maintain compliance with federal, state and local regulations while executing J&J policies. This requires risk identification followed by implementation of the appropriate control. The position manages to ensure the attainment of the company's goals relative to environmental health and safety outcomes.
Ensure all company environmental, health & safety initiatives are effectively deployed. Monitors the progress of management action plans, providing leadership, technical support and professional expertise to ensure corporate and site goals are met; assure all records are accurate, properly maintained, prepared and submitted in a timely manner. The position also manages contact and reporting coordination with the appropriate agencies. Work with Operations in establishing budgetary needs for EHS programs and related business activities.
Establish and sustain partnership with occupational health staff to complement and support efforts in providing awareness education and intervention programs that encourage healthy lifestyles. Assure the development of an approach to occupational safety and ergonomic issues consistent with regulatory requirements and J&J policies and procedures. Executes local program for J&J EH&S MAARS reporting and compliance. Advises local team on ways to improve outcomes related to environmental health and safety. Coordinates various teams and councils at the MLC site to reduce exposures to environmental, health and safety issues.
Participate in internal and external audits/inspections at site level. Customize generic training and education programs for use at site, and conduct environmental, safety& ergonomics training. Assist in the maintenance of the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) through development of site-specific elements. Provide leadership team with consultation pertaining to environmental health and safety emerging regulations and potential impacts to business objectives.
Participate in opportunities on corporate committees, task forces and projects. Implement at site level, those policies and programs developed for the
Franchise to assure that workplace conditions comply with all local, state, federal and J&J requirements. Participate in routine safety-related inspections and incident investigations, making appropriate recommendations. Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters degree of an applicable background (Engineering, Sciences or other EH&S areas) is required. Professional certifications in support of environmental and safety areas is preferred (i.e. CIH, CSP, PE).
Minimum of eight years experience working in industry and five years experience in environmental and/or safety role.
Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state environmental and safety regulations.
Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory permitting.
Demonstrated knowledge of safety program management experience in a regulated industry is preferred.
Working knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean and Project Management methodologies is preferred.
Lead effectively without authority through collaboration and influencing across all levels of an organization.
Work effectively as a team member to contribute positively to the morale of the team.
Effectively solve problems beginning with root cause analysis.
Communicate a message both orally and in written communication to a large group.
Exhibit a sense of urgency while exercising calm, sound judgment during highly demanding situations.
Proficiency in MS Office software programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
The work environment is a warehouse and office setting. Domestic travel is required 10% to 15% of the time. The physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must have the ability to operate machinery if needed. The employee must be able to work in a refrigerated environment at 2 to 8 C (35 to 46 F) for 2 hours or more at a time and be able to work in a freezer at -30 to -20 C (-4 to -22 F) for up to 1 hour at a time. This position will require the candidate to be able to maneuver around machinery due to the different areas within the facility in which they will have to be working. On occasion the position may be required to facilitate support on various site shifts and or weekends to ensure EH&S program compliance and education to all associates.
