Job description

The Business Analytics & Optimization (BAO) Project Manager (PM) is directly accountable/responsible for successful project delivery of BAO solutions, using formal project management methodology (such as Waterfall, RAD, and/or Agile). This individual provides hands-on leadership and direction to the team, as well as manages client relationships. This individual should have previous experience in Communications Sector clients (Energy & Utilities, Telecommunications and/or Media & Entertainment). This is a hands-on consulting delivery role in a complex and integrated environment. Typical tasks include:

1) assisting Partners in the sales process through client meetings / working with teams to create presentations, proposals and contracts to facilitate and close the sales process, creating a detailed work breakdown structure (WBS), estimating models, staffing plans, roles and responsibilities, deliverables templates to be the foundation of contracts
2) setting up and kicking off large projects (e.g., $8-12 million range), including the entire project management system and facilitating client kickoffs
3) tracking and controlling everything from small to large and complex projects from the beginning to end of lifecycle (this includes all areas of the IBM PM methodology below). This includes significant and detailed WBS and financial tracking to ensure close knowledge of Plan vs. Actual for the followings YTD, ITD, ETC, EAC.
a) Change management
b) Communications management
c) Deliverables management
d) Event management
e) Human Resource management
f) Project Definition
g) Quality management
h) Risk management
i) Sponsor Agreement management
j) Supplier Management
k) Tracking and Control
l) Technical environment management
m) Work Plan management
4) closing out projects including closure in IBM financial system, redeploying resources, closing conditions of satisfaction with client, knowledge harvesting and sharing.
5) establishing and managing a team of 40-50 people in a global environment (multi-site / international), with approximately 40% of the team located off shore
6) projects include all phases including strategy to deployment and production support.

The Project Manager is expected to develop/maintain senior client relationships, and to participate in business development activities. They are expected to have exceptional skills in the following areas:
- writing and speaking
- financial management
- people interaction and management
- negotiation
- issues based consulting
- bridging between technical and business views
- Business Analytics & Optimization or Business Intelligence high level technical knowledge
- Communication's sector experience

It is also expected that new hires live within a reasonable commuting distance (generally 50 mi or less) of the following cities: Atlanta, GA; Boston, MA; Charlotte, NC; Chicago, IL; Cincinnati, OH; Columbus, OH; Cleveland, OH; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Detroit, MI; Hartford, CT; Houston, TX; Kansas City, MO; Los Angeles, CA; Miami, FL; Minneapolis, MN; New York City, NY and surrounding areas; Philadelphia, PA; San Francisco, CA; Tulsa, OK; and Washington, DC.

Required
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 3 years experience in managing and delivering all phases of a Business Analytics and Optimization or Business Intelligence solution project
  • At least 3 years experience in leading a consulting team through implementation and deployment
  • At least 3 years experience in formal project management methodology
  • At least 3 years experience in project management processes and best practices
  • At least 1 year experience in the Communications sector (i.e., Energy and Utilities, Telecommunications, and/ or Media and Entertainment)
  • At least 3 years experience in a management consulting firm or professional services organization
  • Readiness to travel Up to 4 days a week (home on weekends-based on project requirements)
  • English: Fluent


Preferred
  • At least 5 years experience in managing and delivering all phases of a Business Analytics and Optimization or Business Intelligence solution project
  • At least 5 years experience in leading a consulting team through implementation and deployment
  • At least 5 years experience in formal project management methodology
  • At least 5 years experience in project management processes and best practices
  • At least 5 years experience in the Communications sector (i.e., Energy and Utilities, Telecommunications, and/ or Media and Entertainment)
  • At least 5 years experience in a management consulting firm or professional services organization
  • Certified in Project Management (PMI, etc.)
