The Internship Program
The purpose of the Internship Program is to give you an opportunity to experience life as an actuary at Coventry Health Care. As an intern at Coventry you will gain an understanding of:
• Why actuaries are vital to our lines of business;
• How the Coventry Actuarial Professional Program supports career development and cultivates leaders;
• Coventry’s role in the Managed Care industry;
• The company, our actuarial community and the local managed care market.
We expect you to work hard, be accountable for your work and take advantage of growth opportunities.
You'll undergo extensive on-the-job training and you'll plunge into a meaningful work assignment right away. Examples of some of the projects in which you may be involved include:
• developing pricing models,
• reserve valuations and
• trend analysis
Your projects will have a direct impact on one of our lines of business, too. As part of a business unit, you'll interact with many "stakeholders" (financial, operational and sales professionals) to accomplish your projects’ goals. You'll work hard, while receiving continuous support from your manager, the Program Manager and the actuarial community. In the end, you'll gain a clearer understanding of the contribution actuaries make to the managed care industry.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
• Completion of 60 college credit hours (or equivalent) prior to starting the internship.
• 3.0 GPA, at time of application.
• Pursuing a 4 year undergraduate or graduate degree
• Demonstrated analytical and computing skills
• Interested in the actuarial profession
Preferred Qualifications:
• 3.4 GPA or higher, at time of application.
• Demonstrated initiative and perseverance
• Pursuing a degree in Actuarial Science / Statistics / Mathematics or in Computer Science / Economics / Business / Finance / Insurance with a strong math background.
• Superior oral and written communication skills
• Successful completion of at least one of the preliminary actuarial exams
