Operates and maintains boilers, RO system, air compressors, pumps and associated support equipment. Keeps area clean and in order. Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Performs minor maintenance to system equipment. Monitors and controls both process and potable well water system supply and quality.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Operates boilers to meet steam demands and performs minor repairs to area piping. Monitors and controls well water system supply and quality. Changes charts and read meters as scheduled. Keeps complete and accurate logs of daily activities and maintenance work. Writes work request as needed.
2. Monitors plant alarm systems. Keeps alarm logs and makes appropriate notification according to alarm procedure. Maintains key control logs and checks out keys to authorized personnel.
3. Performs all required maintenance except electrical.
4. Loads and unloads chemicals and supplies and gives paperwork to supervisor.
5. Switches boiler fuels as necessary to maintain steam supply and least cost operation.
6. Starts up and shut down boiler, air compressor, softener, pump and support equipment in a safe manner and according to standard procedures. Mixes boiler and RO system chemicals as necessary.
7. Performs control and monitoring tests on boiler and softener water and adjusts chemical feeds according to results. Typical testing to include hardness, alkalinity, pH, phosphate, sulfite and conductivity, chloride, chlorine and silica.
8. Takes proper precautions and uses proper protective equipment when working around hazardous chemicals , steam, hot liquid , compressed air, hot surfaces slick surfaces, liquids under pressure and other recognized work place hazards.
9. Regenerates softeners and backwashes filters as necessary using standard procedures.
10. Required to attend safety meetings and other meetings.
11. Performs tasks according to Standard Operating Procedures. Keeps line and equipment clean and painted according to established company colors.
12. Reports system status , problems and maintenance requirements to the Chief Boiler Operator and Utility Team Leader. Troubleshoots system problems, diagnoses difficulties and communicates with Maintenance/Engineering departments to make necessary repairs. Initiates action plans to solve problems. Participates in team meeting to solve plant problems.
13. Performs fire and waterside inspections of boilers and system tanks. Cleans fire and water side as necessary. Performs repairs to boiler refractory and insulation. Installs pipe insulation and covering . Performs minor adjustments and calibration of system controls and covering.
14. Enter data for weekly and monthly energy reports.
15. Complies with all Nestlé and plant-specific policies.
16. Follows directions given by Chief Boiler Operator.
17. Performs all job duties in a safe manner, abiding by all safety rules and policies.
Participate in and support the BBS process by performing One minute
Observations every week.
18. Be fully involved in and actively participate in all Nestle Purina Programs and
Initiatives. These include but are not limited to NQS, QMS, ROME, NCE, SHIFT
Handover, Globe, etc.

SKILLS:
1. Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Must hold valid Nebraska driver's license.
3. Must obtain a Nestlé Purina PetCare Forklift License.
4. Must be able to rotate shifts and work overtime as required.
5. Dependable and able to work without close supervision.
6. Must have basic computer skills.
7. Good mechanical background and aptitude and able to use common tools.
8. Must be able to do cutting and fabrication work.
9. Must be able to read and understand equipment manuals, blue prints and written procedures.
10. Ability to work in confined spaces and from ladders.
11. Must have good communication skills and follow verbal and written instructions.
12. Must maintain a Grade 4 water operator certification within one year of entering department.
13. Have basic knowledge of MSDS and Hazardous Material procedure.
