The Senior Analyst Pension Investments position is responsible for supporting the Investment Subcommittee and the Benefit Plan Governance Committee. This includes interfacing with external actuaries, investment managers and trustee as well as the Benefits team to oversee the day to day asset management of the companyâ s defined benefit and defined contribution retirement plans. This position requires a high attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced and changing environment.
Areas of Responsibility :
- Defined benefit plan and defined contribution plan asset management:
- Analyze and track investment manager performance vs. benchmarks
- Monitor asset allocations relative to targets, changes in funded status, plan cash flows, and oversee rebalancing efforts
- Reconcile investment manager vs. trustee balances and investigate discrepanciesMonitor and manage all pension plan related fees and expenses
- Prepare annual defined benefit plan cash flow forecasts, track actual cash flows and reconcile to trustee statements
- Prepare annual contribution schedule and monthly contribution documentation
- Work with plan actuaries and external investment advisors including participation in bi-weekly updates
- Attend quarterly and ad-hoc Investment Subcommittee meetings and Benefit Plan Governance Committee meetings
- Ad-hoc project work
- Support preparation of presentation materials for quarterly and ad hoc Investment Subcommittee meetings, Benefit Plan Governance Committee meetings, Audit Committee meetings and quarterly CFO reports
- Prepare summaries of all pension related projects and track all major Committee actions using Microsoft Access database
- Review and validate security valuations and prepare annual US GAAP footnote disclosure related to defined benefit plans
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Education level and/or experience:
- Bachelorâs degree in Finance, Economics or Statistics (or related field)
- A minimum of 3 years related work experience
- Previous institutional investment or pension asset management experience preferred
- Solid experience with financial analysis and modeling
- Solid knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (IFRS and US GAAP) and internal controls
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
- Effective communication and negotiation skills
- Strong organization skills and ability to multi-task
- Results and team-oriented
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and within cross functional teams
- High degree of self-initiative, with the ability to thrive in a fast paced, changing environment
- Solid understanding and prior experience in asset-liability investments which includes a detailed understanding of duration and interest rates
- Prior project management experience
- Experience leading a group of external support staff
- Ability to combine strategic and tactical objectives and solve any discrepancies
- Familiarity with complex securities
- Proven leadership skills
- CTP or CPA preferred
