Company Summary:

Vistakon Ireland is located in Limerick and produces the Acuvue range of contact lenses which is the leading contact lens product in the world. Our Limerick site uses the most advanced technology in the industry and we now employ over 640 people directly. Using our highly automated production process, we produce daily disposable contact lenses while utilizing state of the art technologies such as injection moulding, robotics, vision systems and sterilisation systems.

Vistakon Ireland was established in 1995 in the National Technology Park close to the University of Limerick. The facility was originally fitted with six advanced production lines to manufacture one daily disposable contact lens for the European and Japanese markets. Since then we have expanded a number of times and now have over 31 production lines manufacturing one-day, fortnightly, monthly and colour contact lenses which are shipped worldwide.

Each year, we have increased output because of the increase demand for our Acuvue lenses throughout the world continued expansion of our product lines and extensive engineering and retrofit projects ensure that this growth is sustained well into the future.

Position Summary:

The METL manages a technical manufacturing team to ensure all Safety, Quality, Service and Cost targets are met or exceeded. A change agent to grow and drive the business forward. A coach to develop the people on the team.

Main duties and responsibilities:
- Manages all aspects of a technical manufacturing team of technicians on shift. This role hires, develops and carries out performance management of technicians to deliver the business objectives
- Develops and maintains a Credo & behavioral based culture within and outside the team
- Demonstrates strong leadership and a clear identifiable work ethos within the team
- Day to day people management with frequent feedback given to technicians. Delivers "no surprises" reviews twice annually
- Develops technicians, i.e. plans ahead to develop Technicians to the next level
- Work with Engineering Team Leader to develop and implement strategic engineering Goals & Objectives
- Is a leader of transformational changes
- Manages technical issues and ensures plans in place to mitigate these
- Gets the basics right consistently (shift handovers, housekeeping and performance of shift )
- Identify and lead the implementation of cost and technical improvements under the continuous improvement program
- Delivers on projects. Communicates effectively to stakeholders, makes sensible commitments and delivers on commitments
- Can lead new product introductions and product transfers
- Can lead or participate in cross-functional teams to ensure new product introduction or research and development projects are completed in a timely, efficient and effective manner
- Actively interfaces with cross-functional team members, always practicing good team work in support of day to day operating requirements
- Ensure effective and efficient closure on quality system requirements (e.g. corrective and preventative actions )
- Ensure all process developments, new product introduction are managed in accordance with the quality management systems
- Implementation of safety and environmental standards on all new equipment
- Support the implementation of all engineering and plant strategic initiativies
- All employees are responsible for minimizing both the Environmental and Health & Safety effects of the work that they perform

Qualifications


Education and Experience:
- Technical qualification, time served or diploma/degree in a technical discipline
- Ability to demonstrate standards of leadership, managing complexitity, credo values, innovation, customer focus, flexible, team player and good influencing skiils
- 6-10 Years experience in a similar role
