Johnson & Johnson's Global Surgery Group is recruiting a Post Doctoral Fellow to work in the department of Product Performance Evaluation R&D, located in Somerville, NJ.
The Global Surgery Group develops and markets products within the following businesses: Ethicon Surgical Care, Ethicon Biosurgery, Biosense Webster, Cordis, Ethicon Energy, Ethicon Gynecare, Mentor, Acclarent. Technologies and products of the businesses serve the clinical needs in wound closure and tissue repair, intra-operative and postoperative hemostats, electrophysiology, cardiovascular care, laparoscopic instrumentation, woman's health, aesthetic medicine and minimally invasive ENT surgeries.
This Postdoctoral Fellow position in a medical device and materials testing laboratory will involve materials engineering, experimental design, data analysis and documentation, and test method development and validation. The responsibilities of the job may include the following: medical device and materials characterization, mechanical characterization of biological tissues, and collaboration with internal and external partners to design and develop new materials. The candidate will also coordinate and collaborate with internal and external partners to enhance the capabilities of the laboratory with respect to experimental techniques, train lab associates on new or advanced techniques and author/present manuscripts, posters, or other professional publications as appropriate. This candidate may contribute to Ethicon's intellectual property as appropriate and research, purchase, and install equipment as needed to further Ethicon's research capabilities.
Qualifications
A PhD in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline is required. The candidate must have comprehensive knowledge of mechanics of materials, and material structure-property relationships. The candidate must also have experience in mechanical testing, interpretation of mechanical test results, and statistical analysis of test data. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Experience with mechanical characterization of biological tissues is highly desirable. Experience working with medical devices is also desirable. Willingness and ability to work in a project-driven, collaborative team setting in the medical device industry is required. This position is located in Somerville, NJ.
