Description

Global surgery group, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting for a Post Doctoral Fellow to work in the department of Product Microbiology R&D, located in Somerville, NJ.

Global surgery group develops and markets products within the following businesses: Ethicon Surgical Care, Ethicon Biosurgery, Biosense Webster, Cordis, Ethicon Energy, Ethicon Gynecare, Mentor, Acclarent. Technologies and products of the businesses serve the clinical needs in wound closure and tissue repair, intra-operative and postoperative hemostats, electrophysiology, cardiovascular care, laparoscopic instrumentation, woman's health, aesthetic medicine and minimally invasive ENT surgeries.

This Postdoctoral Fellow position will be responsible for experimental design, analysis and written documentation in a medical device research based laboratory. The responsibilities of the job include the following: perform basic and applied research in the area of medical device microbiology, surgical site infection, biofilm formation and control on medical devices, antimicrobial efficacy and resistance, as well as collaborate with internal Ethicon or J&J associates to further Ethicon's capabilities in understanding and producing antimicrobial and anti-infective products. The candidate will also coordinate and collaborate with academic centers of excellence to enhance the capabilities of the laboratory with respect to experimental techniques and advanced technology in the areas of surgical site infection prevention, biofilm formation and control, antimicrobial resistance and bacterial virulence, train lab associates on new or advanced techniques and author/present manuscripts, posters, or other professional publications as appropriate. The candidate will contribute to Ethicon's intellectual property as appropriate and research, purchase, and install equipment as needed to further Ethicon's research capabilities.

Qualifications


A PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or other scientific discipline is required. The candidate must also have training in clinical, industrial or environmental microbiology.
The preferred candidate will have less than 2 years of industrial experience after obtaining a Doctoral degree. Excellent written and oral communication skills are desired. Experience using whole-cell and molecular techniques to address questions of antimicrobial resistance, bacterial virulence, biofilm characteristics is highly desirable. Knowledge or experience in medical devices, test method validation, industrial sterilization methods, controlled environments are also highly desirable. Willingness and ability to work in a project-driven, collaborative team setting in the medical device industry is required. This position is located in Somerville, NJ.
