Description
Janssen Biologics Research, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting for an Associate Assay Development and Screening Scientist, in La Jolla, CA.
Janssen Research & Development, L.L.C. develops treatments that improve the health and lifestyles of people worldwide. Research and development areas encompass novel targets in neurologic disorders, gastroenterology, oncology, infectious disease, diabetes, hematology, metabolic disorders, immunologic disorders, and reproductive medicine.
The candidate will be responsible for developing and executing quantitative immunoassays in complex matrices, such as serum and plasma, supporting pharmacokinetic studies. The candidate will also develop and conduct biochemical and cell-based assays to support characterization of therapeutic proteins. The candidate must be able to execute research activities under minimal supervision and to provide critical analysis of data and research. The candidate must be able to develop appropriate assay systems to support a wide range of scientific areas within discovery research. Position requires a strong background in protein biochemistry, assay development, cell biology or related knowledge base.
Qualifications
Highly self-motivated individual with excellent scientific critical thinking skills is required. Experience with quantitative immunoassays is essential, and experience with these assays in complex matrices for support of pharmacokinetic studies is preferred. Hands-on experience with assay development of cell-based and biochemical assays for protein function is required. Experience with protein biologics and peptides is preferred. Experience using automation and liquid handlers to support medium- to high-throughput screening is preferred. Knowledge and experience in cell culture and flow cytometry is preferred.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet metric-driven project timelines is required. Ability to comprehend pertinent literature as well as interpret and troubleshoot protocols is required. Ability to analyze, interpret, present, and communicate complex data sets is required. Ability to work in a team-based environment with excellent communication, organizational and presentation skills is required.
Proficient laboratory skills including familiarity with automation instrumentation such as: liquid handling machine, plate readers and plate washers is required.
Required: Bachelors Degree with 3-8 years or Masters Degree with 2-6 years experience - cell biology, biochemistry, or related biological or life science discipline is required.
