Ethicon Inc, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Global Surgery Organization, is recruiting for a Director, Quality Operations, to be located in one of the Global Surgery facilities in Europe.
The Global Surgery organization has recently integrated in 2012 to support all 7 business units under Global Surgery, including Ethicon Surgical Care, Biosurgery, Energy, Acclarent, Mentor, Cardio Vascular, BWI and Sterilmed.
The Director, Quality Operations leads the EMEA Global Surgery Quality Operations organization by ensuring the appropriate Quality Operation Leadership is available at all times and skills and competencies are consistent with present and future needs, verifying that Quality Systems are in place to maintain the required compliance level across all manufacturing sites, and driving Quality System efficient execution and reduce risk of non-conforming product:
- Establish and maintain QS procedures and controls ensuring that performance and quality of the product conforms to established company and regulatory standards; develop and disseminate strategy for talent attraction, development and retention to enhance the Quality Operation talent pipeline; ensure EMEA regional plants have appropriate resources with the right competencies to execute the Quality System. Champions cross site and franchise assignments to foster Global Quality Leadership development; provide active link and partnership between the sites, franchise partners, regions and corporate functions; partner with the respective management for their sphere of influence to develop and support initiatives and responses to internal issues; foster resource leverage across plants and regions, ensure alignment or harmonization where required and/or appropriate; execute responses to field actions and coordinate global response with the franchise Quality leadership and corporate functions.
- Ensure Global Surgery EMEA plants assess QS effectively through internal audit and Management review and implements corrective/ preventive, improvement actions as appropriate; ensure EMEA plants address customer feedback and complaints in appropriate and timely manner; ensure that EMEA plants implementation of Quality Systems and goals are integrated in a cost effective and productive manner, establish and monitor metrics for the measurement of Quality indicators and Quality Costs to ensure effectiveness and value to the business; lead the Global Surgery EMEA plants staff in the understanding, development and deployment of key strategies, continuous improvement and customer focus; ensure EMEA sites fulfill all Quality Agreement requirements on behalf of MD&D Global Services; support EMEA plants in the investigation, evaluation and implementation of actions to eliminate root causes of non conformances; initiate action to prevent nonconformities, enact remediation plans, identify and document quality problems, initiate, recommend, provide and verify solutions to quality problems and direct or control further processing and delivery of nonconforming product.
- Responsible for Quality Operations of Global Surgery EMEA sites and lead direct subordinates of Plant Quality Operations Directors/Managers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent and a minimum of 8 years of active management experience including direct supervision and matrix management is required. A degree in a Life Science, Engineering, or Physical Science is preferred. Twelve years of related experience and/or training is required.
- Experience successfully managing a plant-based, multi-site, and multi-geographical organization (Quality or Operations) is strongly preferred.
- A strong track record of successfully dealing with diverse Health Authority and Notified Bodies, including the FDA is required. Experience in a key front-room role during FDA (or similar) inspections is required.
- Experience successfully managing a multinational department and/or a significant Quality project is required.
- ASQ Certified Quality Manager certification, ISO 9001 Lead Assessor certification,, Black Belt certification from a recognized program are preferred.
- Fluency in English is required.
- Up to approximately 40% international and domestic travel may be required. This position can be based in any Global Surgery site in Europe, Norderstedt Germany) and Leiden (Netherlands) are strongly preferred.
