POSITION SUMMARY:
Executes own and reviews others' results of demand-driven computerized and manual searches of the business, scientific, and general literature. Provides consulting services to include analyses and recommendations to business and technical clients for projects and on demand to enhance decision-making and problem solving. Markets literature searching/analysis and other library services to Company personnel. Plans use of technologies, equipment and services to provide the most timely, relevant and comprehensive information to Company personnel.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides computerized and manual searches sometimes with analyses of the scientific, business, and general literature, often including analyses of findings. Coordinates and directs ongoing alert services on topics relevant to Company business.
Provides competitive and strategic intelligence to appropriate people in the Company. Additional support includes providing consulting and knowledge management services to the company.
Provides reference and special project assistance to Company Personnel.
Organizes departmental data for accounting of information retrieval function; submits operating and capital budget proposals and revenue estimates for the literature searching function; controls operating expenses; summarizes statistics for literature searching.
Evaluates and recommends use of electronic information products and modes of information delivery to include Intranet for LIS staff and end users. Coordinates instruction, training, and support for LIS staff and end-users accessing information via databases and the Web.
Assists as Company liaison in managing outside specialty information providers to assure most timely and cost-effective use of their services. Keeps current with literature, databases, websites and new technologies in the fields of information science and business, with a view to improving the services and operations of the department. Participates in department staff selection; provides input on department policies and procedures and assists staff in professional training and development. Coordinates and directs special projects in department as assigned by Supervisor. Serves as department contact when Supervisor is away. Performs online demonstrations, conducts tours, and publicizes and markets services. Makes purchase recommendations for collection additions, which anticipate and satisfy information needs of Company Personnel. Provides back-up to the cataloging, knowledge management and database functions as needed. Meets established service level standards for appropriate functions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Masters degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited University is required. An undergraduate bachelors degree in one of the Applied Sciences (food science, nutrition, animal science, etc.) is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
1) 4+ years experience in library reference work including the use of computerized information retrieval and knowledge of current information services, technologies and search strategies.
2) Experience/exposure required in all key areas of library services including cataloging, interlibrary loan, circulation, acquisitions, etc.
3) Experience searching online information systems (such as Dialog, Factiva, and the Scientific and Technical Information Network (STN)).
4) Experience with Microsoft Excel and Access
SKILLS:
Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical personnel at all levels. Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems. Can work effectively across multiple disciplines, apply on a broad basis principles, theories, and concepts to a wide range of problems. Knowledgeable and comfortable with automation and the integration of technological innovations.
