Title: Senior/Staff Artificial Lift Engineer Location: NORTH AMERICA-USA-TEXAS-HOUSTON Job Number: 00I2M ConocoPhillips is the world's largest independent upstream energy company, based on proved reserves and production of liquids and natural gas. The South Texas asset is located in Webb and Zapata Counties and is comprised of approximately 1,800 producing gas wells with gross daily production of around 175 MMscfd. Description: The Senior/Staff Artificial Lift Engineer (SSALE) will be responsible for providing technical expertise on all aspects of artificial lift operations for the South Texas (STX) asset. Duties will include artificial lift selection, optimization, development of operating and maintenance philosophies as well as providing training to office and field personnel. The SSALE will also be the single point of contact (SPOC) for the plunger lift optimization tool (PLOT) use and implementation in the Gulf Coast Business Unit (GCBU). The SSALE will be an organized and disciplined individual. The SSALE will be able to assess problems, identify profitable opportunities and formulate solutions to optimize wells. The individual will also have extensive experience identifying candidates, selecting, implementing and optimizing artificial lift. The SSALE will have extensive experience in plunger lift. The SSALE will be able to effectively communicate with Operations and Engineering personnel and will be able to function with minimal day-to-day supervision. The SSALE position will be assigned to the STX asset but will be expected to support the entire GCBU as needed. The position will be based in Houston. Responsibilities (may include): * Accountable for base optimization focus including monitoring and interpreting well data * Following accepted processes to review and monitor day-to-day production and to optimize artificial lift * Support programs including Wells Management, Good to Great, Inactive Well Compliance, and Long Range Planning * Identify and pursue optimization opportunities * Ensure compliance with company standards and applicable legislation and regulations * Implement best practices as identified in operational and engineering studies * Work closely with the Engineering and field personnel in all aspects of plungers * Work with MSOs to help optimize plungers * Assist with developing and validating plunger lift operating practices * Help to develop maintenance practices for plungers and plunger equipment including measuring plungers for wear and determining optimal replacement frequency * Conduct plunger lift training with both classroom and field instruction * Assist with plunger fall time measurement to help optimize plunger off time * Utilize the Echometer Well Analyzer while troubleshooting wells * Oversee field pilot projects on controllers, plunger types, fall time analysis, etc. * Coordinate with Engineering and Operations to achieve established objectives and to minimize interruptions to Operations * Provide technical assistance and operational support to project leads and other personnel related to assigned projects during all phases of well work operations * Lead engineering studies to improve operational performance * Implement best practices as identified in operational and engineering studies * Provide guidance in prioritization of projects * Identify and pursue optimization opportunities; this can include work related to downhole configuration optimization, artificial lift selection and surface equipment optimization * Pursue operating cost reductions with the Operations staff * Assess innovative optimization opportunities for implementation * Implement best practices as identified in operational and engineering studies Qualifications: Basic/Required: * Legally authorized to work in the United States * 10 years experience in the upstream oil and gas industry * 5 year experience with plunger lift including field experience * Experience supervising or leading teams * Ability to travel up to twenty five percent of the time * Proficient in nodal analysis Preferred: * Must have a strong commitment to safety and promoting safe work practices * Active and demonstrated safety leadership and mentoring * Excellent mentorship skills - good teacher * Advanced data analysis skills * Strong computer skills and experience with software packages: DSM, Cygnet, SAP, WellView, Prosper/GAP, PipeSim, WEM, SNAP, Microsoft Office * Flexibility - Must be able to prioritize and execute multiple assignments in a changing environment. Capable of handling a large volume of diverse tasks. Capable of adapting to changes in project scope * Ability to work well within multi-discipline teams both in the office and field environments * Must have the ability to maintain good working relationships with office and field operations personnel * Must be willing to travel within the asset area to visit regularly with field operations personnel and attend field meetings * Must have good communications and presentation skills * Analytical and problem solving capabilities * Ability to organize, prioritize and make decisions under time restrictions * Self-motivated * Ability to solve problems accurately and exceptional proficiency in interpreting production related data * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, officials, and the public.
