Position Summary ConocoPhillips is seeking applicants for Geoscience Technician/Technologist internship positions in ourHoustonarea offices. All internships provide a short-term work assignment to help enhance your technical and business skills, and to provide you with exposure to career options in the petroleum industry. You will learn primarily through hands-on technical work and one-on-one mentoring by a subject matter expert on your specific project. You will be engaged in valuable work on a challenging project while giving ConocoPhillips the opportunity to evaluate your future fit within our company. Projects have immediate application to ConocoPhillips business needs around the world. You will have the opportunity to interact with other interns and ConocoPhillips'' professionals working on a variety of projects to learn about additional aspects of the industry. In some cases, short courses or field trips may be part of your experience. Responsibilities may include Typical responsibilities of a Geoscience Technician/Technologist intern may include: * Working with a mentor and a where applicable a group of other professionals in support of geoscience interpretations for activities related to basin studies, exploration plays or prospects, or fields. * Managing digital directories, databases, and shapefiles related to various software packages used by the team (Openworks, Seisworks, Stratworks, Petrosys, Geolog, and ArcMap) * Using computer applications to load, manage, quality control, and display well, analytical, or seismic data (including well logs, core data, perforations, production data, deviation surveys, etc.) * Assisting with subsurface computer mapping (base maps, structure, isopach), plotting well information, georeferencing, generating cross sections, and calculating volumetrics or log summations of reservoir properties * Supporting geoscientists through research, data mining, problem-solving, and troubleshooting * Digitizing, scanning, and archiving hard-copy maps, well data, and diagrams * Creating PowerPoint slides and maps for management presentations Qualifications: Basic/Required * Legally authorized to work in the United States * High School Diploma / GED * 3 hours of college coursework in GIS, Geology, or Cartography, or 6 months of experience using GIS or Cartography * A minimum of ten continuous weeks availability for the internship Preferred * Bachelor''s degree in Geography, or an Associate degree in GIS. * Cumulative college GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale * Background in Cartography, Geodesy, Geology, and GIS * Demonstrated ability using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) * Experience using Unix operating systems * Demonstrated ability to load, edit, manage, and report digital data * Experience using SQL expressions and queries * Willingness to work independently and as part of a team * Strong written and oral communication skills * High level of initiative, energy, creativity, and commitment to supporting team goals * Strong analytical skills with a practical approach to problem solving * Ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize responsibilities * Adaptability to a changing environment * Eagerness to learn and grow professionally * High ethical standards Conditions of Employment * Passing pre-employment background checks including, but not limited to, a drug screen.
