Title: Senior Research Scientist - Pore Scaling Imaging Laboratory Location: NORTH AMERICA-USA-OKLAHOMA-BARTLESVILLE WEST Job Number: 00I48 Company Overview: ConocoPhillips is the world's largest independent upstream energy company, based on proved reserves and production of liquids and natural gas. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, the company had operations in almost 30 countries and approximately 16,700 employees as of May 1, 2012, with 2011 average production of 1.62 million BOE per day and proved reserves of 8.4 billion BOE as of Dec. 31, 2011. Description: The Subsurface Laboratory in Petrophysical Technology has an opening for a Research Scientist in the Pore-Scale Characterization group who would lead efforts to investigate the nature of pore space and the composition of the mineral matrix along with other physical properties in unconventional reservoir rocks, and the behavior of fluids in small pores. This experimental work is expected to support research activities by other Technology groups and therefore involves a multi-disciplinary approach to problem identification and analysis. The ability to work with and influence others is a critical component to this position. The Pore-Scale Characterization group is redirecting its efforts to focus on unconventional reservoirs and has acquired new instrumentation, including low-field NMR, molecular spectroscopy, electron microscopy, gas adsorption and thermal properties, to broaden its view of these fine-grain reservoir rocks. The position is primarily laboratory-based, but experience with pore-scale modeling is welcomed. Responsibilities: Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: The position will be responsible for the operation of a number of laboratory instruments applied to the characterization of geological materials Specific duties include: * Follow standard operating procedures and practices and contribute to an environment of safety in the laboratory. * Design and execute new experiments that investigate fluid behavior in very small pores and develop new techniques to characterize porosity, mineralogy and other physical properties in fine-grain rocks. * Direct technical staff in the operation of a wide range of experiments involving the characterization of rock and fluid properties in geological media. * Integrate data analysis and interpretation of laboratory results into reservoir scale models. * Interact with field-scale projects and design experiments that assist the understanding of reservoir processes Qualifications: Basic/Required: * PhD in physical sciences or engineering * 1 year of post-doctoral and/or industry experience in the analysis of geological materials * 1 years experience with laboratory equipment and techniques, with expertise in either molecular spectroscopy, low-field NMR/MRI or electron microscopy Preferred: * Legally authorized to work in the United States * 3 years of oil and gas industry experience * Publication record in the use of laboratory measurements to evaluate Unconventional Reservoirs. * Strong data analysis skills including experience with advanced statistics. * Proven track record in collaboration in multi-disciplinary groups. In order to be considered for this position you must complete the entire application process, which includes answering all prescreening questions and providing your eSignature on or before the requisition closing date ofFebruary 22, 2013.
