The Assistant Program Coordinator position provides support to all the educational theatre programs. This encompasses knowing the programs, their curricula, the public health issues and the educational messages the programs are designed to impart. The position is required to organize, delegate, and otherwise direct troupe activities as assigned by the Program Coordinator or Program Supervisor. Responsibilities may include assisting the Program Supervisor with community outreach, production, touring support, stage management, assistant directing, administrative tasks and staff training. These duties may include assisting with the creation, directing and maintenance of one or more of the programs. *This position is the first tier in the Program Supervisor track and reports to Manager, Educational Theatre.
Essential Functions:
- Works as an assistant to the programs under the guidance or one (1) or more Program Supervisors.
- Assisting may be in the form of stage management, assistant directing, community liaising with schools and other partners, training the trainers and providing facilitation to student and family workshops.
- At the request of Program Supervisor, may be assigned team leadership role.
- Assists directing team (Program Supervisors) during rehearsals, attends performances, troupe and program meetings.
- Assists with site visits, booking confirmations and solicitations.
- Supports the development and implementation of community outreach strategies for all ETP programs.
- Assists in the ongoing maintenance and proper care of all equipment on an ad hoc basis including van, set, props, sound equipment, puppets and costumes.
- Completes paperwork, logs, reports and/or files as appropriate.
- This may include making logistical arrangements, recruiting or assigning participation of troupe members, ensuring a quality product through proper preparation and rearranging troupe schedules and acting as liaison between the school and the program (i.e., greet principal or representative, confirm logistics upon arrival at school, rep Kaiser to the media etc.).
- Assists with research, evaluation of program effectiveness via surveys, focus groups and other feedback mechanisms.
- Participates in administrative duties, functions and goals, including attending staff meetings and staff development trainings.
- Supports rehearsal space facility management.
- Assists Program Supervisors in reports, proposals and recommendations about the programs continuing improvement and expansion as requested.
- Assists in the development of educational messages, curriculum and promotional materials.
- Ensures good community relations with schools through established procedures.
- Participates in the artistic development and creation of new programs as requested by KP or community groups by acting as a consultant and creative advisor.
- Assists with the monitoring of expenditures.
- Participates in health education training and youth counseling to serve as role model for students.
- Responsible for exercising discretion and independent judgment, in accordance with position duties and KP policies.
- Drive company vehicles, set up and strike set when necessary.
- Apply creative, original and intellectual skills in developing and performing various roles in the programs as a performer, understudy, facilitator for a special project or on an ad hoc basis.
- Assume other duties as directed.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience (usually two (2) to five (5) years) in theatre.
- Bachelor's Degree in theatre preferred.
- Formal, advanced level acting training and/or directing and touring theatre experience and/or stage management skills preferred.
- Experience as a Road Coordinator with the Educational Theatre (two (2) to five (5) years) preferred.
- Certificate in drama or related field from an accredited institution is preferred.
- Bilingual Spanish, Cantonese or Tagalog preferred.
- Background in issue based theatre and community outreach preferred.
- Background and training in theater performance.
- Ability to provide support in the development of educational materials with a broad curriculum preferred.
- Familiar with MS Office, Lotus Notes, FileMaker Pro and the Internet preferred.
- Ability to learn and perform a variety of roles within the programs: plays, workshops or special community events with the ability to participate in theatrical ensemble process.
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.
- Interpersonal and team work skills.
- Ability to maintain high productivity amidst completing priorities and tight deadlines.
- Have a strong desire to work with other community organizations to improve the health of the community.
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
