Manages the Research Biorepository Program. Serves as the liaison between the lab and other related aspects of the program by providing services for the procurement, storage, distribution and study of blood components/biological matter as part of the Research Program on Genes, Environment, and Health.
Essential Functions:
- Oversees the technical and operational aspects of the biorepository, providing research specimen and processing services.
- Develops procedures/processes/protocols for sample processing, collection, storage, DNA extraction services, and appropriate access for research purposes.
- Oversees the infrastructure of the Biorepository: laboratory information management system and processing/storage/retrieval system.
- Supervises lab & technical staff to ensure quality service.
- Manages and resolves human resource, labor relations, employee and department safety, and risk management issues.
- Develops, interprets and implements standards, procedures, policies and protocols for research programs.
- Manages budget and identifies/implements strategies to reduce costs and improve quality of products and services.
- Prepares grant proposals, external and internal progress reports.
- Ensures compliance with administrative, legal and regulatory requirements.
- Ensures Biorepository is responsive to the scientific, ethical and academic needs of its members and research projects across the institution, and consider ethical and regulatory issues.
- May collaborate with research leaders on determining strategic direction of the program; serve on professional committees at local, state and national agencies; make formal presentations to senior level audiences and serve as researcher and consultant on multiple projects.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- 10 years of lab supervisory experience.
- 5 years managing large or high throughput lab facility.
- 5 years experience with DNA extraction and biobanking.
- Master's degree or equivalent experience in public health, health care administration, epidemiology or other related field.
- PhD preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of research methodology.
- Knowledge of biorepository operations, sample collection, and processing.
- Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead professionals and manage others through influence and collaboration.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct and interpret quantitative/qualitative analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to develop appropriate action plans to address key business/financial issues from a multidisciplinary perspective.
- Proven leadership skills in project management.
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
