Noramco, Inc. produces a variety of active pharmaceutical ingredients and is a major worldwide producer of medicinal analgesics, pharmaceutical intermediates and synthetic fine organic chemicals. It also produces monomers and polymers for pharmaceutical and medical devices.
The Analytical Scientist's key function is to provide analytical support services as part of the Scientific Affairs Organization by conducting research in assigned areas under general supervision using established methodology. Specific responsibilities include: analysis of routine research samples; validation and maintenance of existing methods; and supporting the development of new analytical methods for existing, transferred and new products. Incumbents will partner with Process Development, New Product Development and Introduction, Quality Control and Operations groups.
This position will be responsible for performing analytical chemistry work necessary to ensure the identity, purity, quality and strength of materials, by following established test methods and procedures and accurately performing general analytical techniques and operating analytical equipment such as HPLC, GC, HPLC/MS, GC/MS, X-Ray Diffraction, and Particle Size Laser Diffraction. This role troubleshoots common equipment issues and interprets spectra and data results and may support routine quality investigations, plant process troubleshooting, process development activities and assessment of unusual process/testing occurrences by performing analytical testing and problem solving activities. The Analytical Scientist maintains existing analytical methods, and may assist with the development, validation and transfer of new, routine analytical test methods. This role assists with writing and updating protocols, procedures and reports and maintains and provides notebooks, records, reports, action/check lists and documentation which are current, legible, readily understood, complete and accurate to insure compliance with established procedures and specifications, and are verifiable as required or requested and reviews basic documentation for completeness and accuracy.
The Analytical Scientist provides analytical advice and consultation on common technical analytical chemistry issues and consults with more senior scientists and management where appropriate; executes experiments under direct guidance in support of research efforts and provides solutions to problems of limited scope and complexity. This position exercises judgment within defined policies and procedures to determine appropriate action and would consult more senior scientist and management as appropriate. This position may assist with the procurement, installation and calibration of laboratory instruments, equipment and supplies to ensure reliable, prompt, precise and accurate test data along with the possible setup, IQ, OQ and PQ of new equipment. As an Analytical Scientist, this role may train new laboratory personnel in existing Noramco procedures/processes and lab equipment and perform other appropriate duties as assigned by the Analytical Services Manager.
This position interfaces routinely with operations and technical personnel and requires general understanding and working knowledge of most frequently used test methods, procedures, instruments and apparatus for the receipt, labeling, sampling, testing, documentation, release and distribution of all chemical substances associated with NORAMCO, Inc. This position develops and demonstrates a general understanding and knowledge of computerized data acquisition, analysis and handling techniques to ensure reliable, prompt, precise and accurate test data using established methods and procedures. The Analytical Scientist will understand and responsibly perform duties with attention to quality, safety and environmental matters; such as wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, recognizing, reporting and appropriately responding to hazards in the work area (spills/accidents/near misses), plus all other relevant job requirements.
Qualifications
This position requires a minimum of a B.S. in Chemistry or related science; an advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) is preferred. A minimum of 4 years experience in instrumental and wet chemical techniques required; knowledge of chemical manufacturing and GMP/GLP regulations preferred. This position requires prior experience interfacing with operations and technical personnel and the ability to understand test methods, procedures, instruments and apparatus for the receipt, labeling, sampling, testing, documentation, release and distribution of all chemical substances associated with GLPs within an API, or similar, manufacturing facility. Hands-on working experience in the following techniques is required: HPLC, HPLC Mass Spectrometry, GC, Particle Size Analysis, XRPD. The Analytical Scientist must have working knowledge of analytical instrumentation use and routine preventative maintenance. The ability to troubleshoot instrumentation malfunctions following ICMS investigation protocols is a strong preference.
The successful candidate must have the ability to make independent decisions within standard guidelines and to work under general supervision; maintain an adequately supplied, properly cleaned and safe laboratory to minimize test delays, test errors and mishaps by using good laboratory and housekeeping practices and maintain and comply with all regulatory programs and guidelines to ensure that all current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) requirements are met. The successful candidate must be available for overtime work on a scheduled or emergency basis.
