Janssen Research & Development is recruiting for a Senior Scientist, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, for Spring House, PA.
The Immunology Therapeutic Area of Janssen Research & Development is committed to delivering transformational solutions for patients with autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. The goal of the newly-formed Disease Integrative Biology group, within the Immunology Therapeutic Area (TA), is to create a critical platform for deep biological disease understanding that will allow the Immunology TA, through enabling its R&D pipeline, to maintain its leadership position in providing treatments for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. The Disease Integrative Biology group is seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist to be an active member of a team focused upon creating the platform for biological disease understanding of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Psoriasis (PsO) and, utilizing these platforms to impact the R&D efforts focused on the IBD and PsO near- and long-term portfolios.
The primary responsibility for this role is to support the development of the disease platform by developing and utilizing in vitro multi-cellular and organotypic models that reflect pathways associated with IBD. The candidate will be expected to have a good understanding of the needs of the platform for the biological disease understanding of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) and, independently identify and execute on establishing appropriate in vitro model systems to generate data for the platform The successful candidate should be able to integrate the in vitro techniques with novel technologies to discover new biology related to autoimmune diseases.
In addition, he/she will be expected to independently generate hypothesis through utilization of the platform, validate hypotheses at the bench and, study the mechanism of action of exploratory drugs and drug targets. The position will require an interactive and pro-active scientist willing to work in a matrixed-team environment and will be expected to integrate into a multidisciplinary team effort consisting of internal and external scientists with expertise in immunology, cellular and molecular biology There will be an expectation for the candidate to have an awareness of computational tools and their application for in silico analyses of biological dataThe candidate will be accountable for operational excellence, including transparency and rigor in data collection and interpretation to ensure high and consistent quality of documentation and presentation to Senior Management for decision making. This includes i) the provision of scientific expertise and education as necessary to key partner lines within the TA, ii) tracking of progress/impact of funded research, iii) regular updates of the research progress, iv) maintenance of written records of work in the form of notebooks, technical reports and protocolsThe candidate will be expected to pro-actively contribute in rendering the TA and Research Immunology the preferred partner of choice within Academia and represent Research Immunology to external partners and maintain a professional environment during the initial contact as well as continued discussions Represent Janssen R&D/Immunology TA/Research Immunology at conferences as well as scientific and other business-related meetings as required (including presentations).
Qualifications
This position requires a PhD with 3+ years of post-doctoral experience. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate a strong theoretical and technical grasp of immune-related molecular and cellular mechanisms and, expertise in immunological pathways related to IBD. The successful candidate will have led the identification and introduction of novel technologies/approaches to solve complex biologic problems in IBD. He/she will be expected to critically appraise scientific literature in support of questions of importance for the Immunology TA's drug pipeline.They must be experienced in independently planning and executing experiments, developing reagents, methods and assays, recording and interpreting data, and, provide timely and rigorous data in oral and written form. The successful candidate will be expected to be actively engaged in bench-based, hands-on research and will be expected to provide direction, consulting, mentoring and training of Associate Scientists. This position is located in Spring House, PA.
