Janssen Research & Development is recruiting for an Associate Scientific Director, Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) in Spring House, PA.
The Immunology Therapeutic Area of Janssen Research & Development is committed to delivering transformational solutions for patients with autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. The goal of the newly-formed Disease Integrative Biology group, within the Immunology Therapeutic Area (TA), is to create a critical platform for deep biological disease understanding that will allow the Immunology TA, through enabling its R&D pipeline, to maintain its leadership position in providing treatments for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Disease Integrative Biology will establish a new R&D operating model, in which a streamlined core internal team will directly engage a large expert network of collaborators to meet the responsibilities of the function.
The Disease Integrative Biology group is seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientific Director to take a leading role in creating the platform for biological disease understanding of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and, utilizing these platforms to impact the R&D efforts focused on the RA near- and long-term portfolios.
In this role, the candidate will be responsible for developing and executing the biology strategy for building the disease platforms to will enable the biological understanding of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)
The candidate will be expected to lead the utilization of the disease platforms to identify and validate new mechanisms for therapeutic intervention and, inform on the current portfolio in alignment with the disease area strategies. The scope includes understanding disease etiology with the goal of identifying points of intervention that may enable cure and potential prevention of disease onset.
He/she will be expected to lead a matrixed, cross-functional, internal team, in this role, the candidate will execute on projects through matrixed, cross-functional, resources

Qualifications
The position requires a PhD and/or MD with 6-12 years of post-doctoral experience with strong scientific credentials for research in RA or a related field.
The successful candidate must have a proven publication record in applying multidisciplinary approaches to understand disease etiobiology, preferably RA, and have a working knowledge of the application of research tools to further the understanding of diseases with a proven publication record in applying multidisciplinary approaches to
understand disease etiology A knowledge of in vivo models is desired but not required. The candidate will be expected to be actively engaged in bench-based, hands-on research.
A proven track record in leading multi-functional teams is essential for this position. This position is located in Spring House, PA.
