Inducible pluripotent stem cells offer great potential for advancing the discovery of novel disease interceptions. The recently awarded Nobel Prize underscores the excitement of the scientific community for the promise this novel approach holds. Especially in the area of neuroscience this technology has allowed the study of disease mechanism in human in vitro systems in a way that was not feasible before.

The C.R.E.A.Te functional area of Janssen R&D is looking to employ a Stem Cell Systems Biologist who can supervise and execute research projects involving stem cell derived cellular systems to study disease and therapy mechanism with an initial focus in neuroscience.

Primary Duties:

- In close collaboration with experimental and clinical colleagues working in neurosciences develop novel cellular disease models that are amenable for drug screening
- In close collaboration with drugs safety scientist develop novel cellular models for drug safety testing in cardiomyocytes and hepatocytes.
- Contribute to the design of new functional genomics studies (loss/gain of function, molecular profiling, and others) to validate cellular models and/or novel pathways underlying disease/treatment mechanism.
- Analyze and integrate high-dimensional data derived from stem cell derived systems
- Manage external collaborations and oversee activities in the context of international public-private consortia
- Report and present in a timely manner towards management and collaborators

Qualifications


- PhD in Cellular/Molecular Biology, Medical Sciences or a related field, with three years of relevant post-doctoral experience in an academic or industrial setting
- Strong cellular/molecular biology skills in culturing and characterizing stem cells as well as experience in differentiation protocols
- Demonstrated experience with inducible pluripotent stem cells for studying disease mechanisms
- Demonstrated organizational, time management, and planning skills to efficiently manage multiple diverse projects
- Experience in the analysis of genomics, proteomics and/or flow cytometry data is a plus
- Working experience in a neuroscience context is highly desirable
- Excellent communication, reporting and team working skills, yet able to work independently
