Spring House, PA, US

SENIOR SCIENTIST-1339130206

Description

Janssen Research & Development is recruiting for a Senior Scientist (Computational Biologist) in Spring House, PA.

Janssen Research & Development, L.L.C. develops treatments that improve the health and lifestyles of people worldwide. Research and development areas encompass novel targets in neurologic disorders, gastroenterology, oncology, infectious disease, diabetes, hematology, metabolic disorders, immunologic disorders, and reproductive medicine.

This position is with the Systems Pharmacology and Biomarkers team and requires a highly motivated and skilled Research Scientist to assist in the development of innovative therapies for immune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, asthma, COPD and inflammatory bowel disease.

In recent years the high throughput technologies technology have enabled the generation of large-scale genetic and phenotypic data, leading to characterization of genetic variations that may contribute to health and disease. Advances in the Next Generation Sequencing technologies are thought to replace microarray and SNPs arrays within the next few years.

We are committed to advance our disease understanding using a systematic and integrated research strategy. By representing the molecular machinery as several layers of interacting networks we model drugs as perturbations able to correct the disease state by overcoming the inherent network robustness.

As part of this commitment, the Network Pharmacology group aims at understanding the network of interactions between drugs and the internal molecules and the balance between therapeutically beneficial and adverse reaction, which will drive a systematic approach to drug discovery. We will identify, generate, integrate and apply data from several sources, including from genetic, biomarker, clinical, genomic and other studies, to inform across a spectrum of Immunology research research. Our goals are to help (1) identify and prioritize therapeutic mechanisms targets, and (2) identify patient sub-populations to benefit from treatment.

Qualifications

A PhD in genetics and genomic research with focus on applications of high content data analysis and epidemiology to understand disease etiologies is required. The position requires 3+ years of relevant experience. Expertise in applying functional genomics studies to expand the insights from genome-wide and other population-based genetic association studies using integrative network models is required. Sound understanding of GWAS, transcriptomics, eQTL studies, next generation sequencing technologies, cell-based genomic studies, and related methodologies is desired. Core understanding of human genetics, population study design and epidemiology with working knowledge of the genetics and genomics of immune disorders (preferred). Expertise in building and analyzing molecular interaction networks from genomic and genetic studies is preferred. Proficiency in software such as SAS, S-PLUS, R, Omicsoft, Cytoscape is desired. Core understanding of graph theory, clustering methods, causal network inference is preferred. A strong publication track record in the genetic and functional genomic areas is desired. The ability to communicate clearly, collaborate effectively and to build effective and trusted partnerships with internal and external scientists is required. This position is based in Spring House, PA.
