SCIENTIST-1302130206
Description
Janssen Research & Development is recruiting a Scientist (Computational Biologist) for Spring House, PA.
Janssen Research & Development, L.L.C. develops treatments that improve the health and lifestyles of people worldwide. Research and development areas encompass novel targets in neurologic disorders, gastroenterology, oncology, infectious disease, diabetes, hematology, metabolic disorders, immunologic disorders, and reproductive medicine.
This position is with the Systems Pharmacology and Biomarkers team and requires a highly motivated and skilled Research Scientist to assist in the development of innovative therapies for immune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, asthma, COPD and inflammatory bowel disease.
In recent years the high throughput technologies have enabled the generation of large-scale genetic and phenotypic data, leading to characterization of genetic variations that may contribute to health and disease. Advances in the Next Generation Sequencing technologies are thought to replace microarray and SNPs arrays within the next few years.
We are committed to advance our disease understanding using a systematic and integrated research strategy. By representing the molecular machinery as several layers of interacting networks we model drugs as perturbations able to correct the disease state by overcoming the inherent network robustness.
As part of this commitment, the Network Pharmacology group aims at understanding the network of interactions between drugs and the internal molecules and the balance between therapeutically beneficial and adverse reaction, which will drive a "magic shotgun" approach to drug discovery. We will identify, generate, integrate and apply data from several sources, including from genetic, biomarker, clinical, genomic and other studies, to inform across a spectrum of Immunology research research. Our goals are to help (1) identify and prioritize therapeutic mechanisms targets, and (2) identify patient sub-populations to benefit from treatment. We will provide expertise and leadership in network inference and analysis from genomics, genetics and clinical data Champion the use of network based analysis to support disease understanding for drug discovery and patient selection approaches. We will propose, lead and conduct innovative network analysis projects to inform the Immunology Research on mechanisms, targets and predictive sub-networks in patient populations and partner with Immunology Research scientists to develop network specific platforms able to integrate and query multiple data sources. In addition, we will engage with the external community to develop and maintain high-quality collaborations in network analysis and inference.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field and 0-3 years of relevant experience is required. Knowledge of advanced statistical and analytical techniques for analyzing data generated using high throughput platforms ( such as RNA-seq, microarrays, genotyping) is required. Expertise in building and analyzing molecular interaction networks from genomic and genetic studies is required. Proficiency in software such as SAS, S-PLUS, R, Omicsoft, Cytoscape is desired. Core understanding of graph theory, clustering methods, causal network inference is desired. A track-record of relevant publication in leading journals is desired. Working knowledge of the genetics and genomics of immune disorders (preferred). A strong publication track record is desired. The ability to communicate clearly, collaborate effectively and to build effective and trusted partnerships with internal and external scientists is required. This position is located in Spring House, PA.
