The Operating Room Specialty Lead Tech, under the supervision of the OR Coordinator and/or Assistant Coordinator, coordinates and assists with all levels of nursing care being provided to a group of patients within one surgical subspecialty during the period of one working shift. In addition to these responsibilities, the Lead Tech assumes all staff tech responsibilities.

Essential Functions:
- The Specialty Lead Tech will assist in the coordination of specialty team personnel.
- May assist in the interviewing process of applicants for posted positions and make recommendations to the manager.
- Supports organizational goals and objectives.
- May provide input into staff evaluations upon request.
- Monitors performance of staff and provides documentation of performance problems to the manager.
- Assures that employees providing service have the knowledge and skills required to provided age appropriate care to patients and families through education, training, or experience.
- Provides input into the development and maintenance of staffing patterns for the patient care unit and helps monitor day to day staffing and utilization of nursing resources.
- Participates and provides input for staff meetings under the direction of the manager.
- Participates in and promotes quality assessment and improvement activities.
- The Specialty Lead Tech will contribute to overall functioning of the unit by monitoring resources.
- Identifies and communicates to the manager, any systems problems that interfere with effective patient care.
- Conveys risk situations to the safety officer and manager.
- Keeps department updated on monthly basis current projects in progress.
- Participates and gives input into trend analysis for the operational budget as needed.
- Assists with materials management, ensuring availability of supplies as needed for the specific sup-specialty.
- Provides direction during emergency situations as delegated.
- Acts as resource for unit staff.
- Participates in orientation and development of orientation plan.
- The specialty Lead Tech will actively participate in providing and/or facilitating patient care based on age appropriate needs.
- Participates in the development and implementation of standards of patient care, policies, and procedures and protocols.
- Coordinates and participates in the delivery of patient care for a specific sup-specialty:
- Assesses needs and priorities of patient.
- Assists in the implementation of nursing care.
- Evaluates effectiveness of nursing care.
- Participates in the development and ongoing monitoring of quality assurance activities.
- Provides input into and participates in development and achievement of departmental goals and objectives.
- Interacts with the surgeon for purposes of problem-solving and communicating procedural needs.
- Develops, updates, and maintains surgeon's preference cards in a timely manner, with assistance, of the data analysts.
- Functions within expected behavior standards of Staff tech as participating in role.
- Obtains and demonstrates the skills and knowledge needed to provide age appropriate care to patients and families through education, training, and experience.
- The Specialty Lead Tech will assist with the educating of other health care professionals.
- Identifies educational and specialty needs with the surgeon.
- Assists in the development of staff in-services related to sub-specialty.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
- One (1) to two (2) years of scrubbing experience and able to scrub all surgical procedures.
- Two (2) years of recent experience in OR with one (1) year of recent demonstrated proficiency in the scrub role in the specialty.
- Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology.
- BLS certification.
- Knowledge of sterile technique, operating room procedures and equipment.
- Dexterity with hands.
- Effective relationships with people.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and discipline.
- Able to follow instruction.
- Knowledge of sterile core area.

Preferred Qualifications:
- CST preferred.
- A desire and ability to function within the nursing process, professional and personnel standards as defined is preferred.
- Ability to use and apply effective communication and interpersonal relationship skills preferred.

Salary Range: 23.91 - 28.18
