Description
POSITION OVERVIEW:
 
Advises and assists Project and Construction Management in the formulation, implementation and management of major project safety plans.  These plans may pertain to one or more job site locations, which are separate and distinct construction operations requiring integrated supervision of programs.  Reports  organizationally to the senior construction site representative and functionally  to the Safety Manager.  Ensures that the project safety plan reflects company policy and provides a coordinated plan for the overall project which complies with the prevailing safety requirements at each location.
 
 
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Makes appropriate decisions based on knowledge.
  • Reviews all contract documents related to the project for safety-related issues.
  • Reviews contractors' Safety Programs along with a description of the hazards peculiar to their work assignment and the firms' nominees for the
  • Safety Engineer or Safety Officer positions.  Approval/Disapproval of the nominees for Safety Positions with the Contractor.
  • Works diligently with field personnel to assist site managers and inspectors in strictly enforcing the contract safety provisions, including compliance with applicable all safety standards.
  • Participates in meetings with bidders and contractors (such as pre-bid, pre-award and pre-constructions, etc.)  to outline and explain the Authority'
  • Construction Safety Program and other safety-related aspects of the contracts as appropriate.
  • Monitors the construction management safety-related staff actions and reports to the Project Manager on safety related issues.
  • Assists Managers and field personnel on safety matters. 
  • Organizes and conducts safety training as necessary. 
  • Acts as a Consultant on safety issues and performs necessary actions to assure that safety programs and procedures are effectively enforced in the field.
 

Qualifications
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Must be western-educated and holds a Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be NEBOSH certified.
  • Must have attended recognized safety related training courses.
  • Minimum 10 years in the field of health and safety.
  • Thorough knowledge of international safety standards and procedures.
  • Good wirtten and oral communication skills.
  • In-depth undertanding of safety management systems and procedures.
