Description

Cable/Furniture Installer to work as part of an engineering support team responsible for the installation of voice, data, video, fiber optic cable, and various types of furniture models for the MDIOC and within the MDA Colorado Springs region. This is a temporary position (3-6 months) to support the BMDSS organization on the JRDC program at Schriever AFB, CO.
Responsible for providing cable installation, related network equipment installation, and troubleshooting support for assigned projects and tasks. Responsible for the installation of furniture (Herman Miller, Pleion, Legacy, Krug and Touhy models). Responsible for reading, providing redlines and updates to related engineering drawings (ICD), change packages, Facility Installation Standard (FIS), cable data sheets, and cable database. Will install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot CAT5, CAT6, fiber, copper, and video cable. Rack and stack network, audio/visual, cable TV, telephone, and electronic equipment including CAT5/CAT6 and fiber cable management equipment. Review, implement, and provide updates to REMEDY tickets. Review, implement, and provide input to Detailed Design & Implementation Packages (DDIP) for cable and network equipment installation related tasks. Conduct site surveys in support of engineering/project management requirements for design, installation, integration, de-installation, and troubleshooting. Provide schedule updates and resource loading inputs to Project Management, Engineering, Network Operations, and Scheduling as required. Other duties as required and assigned.


Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
High school diploma and 4 years experience. Must be able to lift 35 lbs, work overhead from a ladder and work below computer floors. Other duties include Racking & Stacking equipment, preparing and inventorying modification kits, and redlining documentation. The successful candidate must be proficient with basic cable installation hand tools including RJ-11, RJ-45, pin crimpers, wire strippers, pin extractors, floor tile puller, and punch down tools. Proficient at terminating and installing BNC's, fiber-optic ST and SC, Cat-5/6, RGB, and coax cables. Must be proficient at building cable connectors following standards RS-422A, RS-23A, RS-449, RS-530, 568A and 568B. Must have a working knowledge of cable color codes. Capable of breaking down, moving, and installing furniture. Understanding of designs and layouts. Knowledge of networks, telephone, audio/video, cable TV, and electronic systems as related to cable plant management, installation, and troubleshooting. Able to operate and troubleshoot using the following test equipment: DSP2000, DTX1800, OTDR, FOM, and VOM. Understand Red/Black separation of cables, ability to read cable tray drawings and follow cable tray routings/conduit paths. Must be able to verify and install cable labels and modify documentation [cable data sheets]. Must be able to multi-task, required to provide daily status/updates. Must have a DoD Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain.

Preferred Qualifications:
Professional, customer driven attitude a plus. Experience with Remedy ticketing. Can perform work assignments with little or no supervision; can perform as a team lead, able and willing to train others.
