Description: A technical specialist in the area of laboratory investigations in well-completions, stimulation, hydraulic fracturing, rock fracture mechanics, including rock-fluid interactions and flow through porous media with emphasis on mud-rocks. Requires a good general knowledge of Subsurface Well Technologies employed in development drilling, completion and stimulation of conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs. Directs the operations of the COP in-house Unconventional Completion Laboratories. Supports external lab rock fracture mechanics studies. Directing a small team of lab technicians. Responsibilities: Responsibilities/Essential Functions of the Job May Include: * Main function is the lead role in the Unconventional Completions Laboratory of Subsurface Technology. Manage, direct, and supervise the safe operations of the laboratory and its staff. * Main work-scope includes routine rock mechanical testing as well as proppant and fluid interactions with mud rocks, protocol development,test-data analysis and interpretation, and documentation. Ensure safe, high-quality workflow, from core sampling, to core sample preparations, and use of automated triaxial test frames and pumps. Report results and present them to COP business units and worldwide partners. * Interface with model-developers and end-users of hydraulic fracturing and well-stimulation simulators * Provide oversight of contract lab services for safety, quality assurance, work-flow, cost-control, and timely reporting of results. Manage multiple labs/vendors, consortia, JIPs, and contracts with service providers. * Conduct technical support, technology process development and implementation in conjunction with worldwide activities in exploration, drilling, and production for conventional, heavy-oil, and unconventional resources. * Interact and collaborate with geophysicists, geologists, petrophysicists, engineers, modelers and simulator developers within the geosciences and reservoir engineering groups, Subsurface Technology, Global Wells, and business units. * Provide instructional and training classes. * Evaluate emerging technology; adapt and develop new geomechanical testing techniques in line with COP strategies. * Manage the expansion of lab testing capabilities towards heavy-oil and unconventional resources. * Actively participate in Excellence Networks and Knowledge Sharing Groups within the company. Qualifications: Basic/Required: * Legally authorized to work in the United States * MS in Petroleum or Chemical engineering or Geoscience, with specialty in experimental, petroleum-related hydraulic fracturing technology and rock mechanics with 6 years experience in the petroleum industry * Proficient in laboratory investigations of proppant , rock strength, and rock-fluid interactions, in analog-digitalinterfacing and test-automation for lab equipment * Familiarity or working knowledge with commercial hydraulic fracturing and stimulation software packages * Willingness to travel and relocate Preferred: * PhD preferred in Petroleum Engineering or Geology * 10 years experience in diverse aspects of laboratory rock fracture mechanics, proppant and completion fluid interactions with subsurface geological formations * Proficient with softwares for hydraulic fracturing * Excellent skills in laboratory automation of rock testing in wide range of fluids, pressures, stresses, strains, and temperatures * Committed to team approach, but also independent, analytical problem solving * Experienced in management of multiple, diverse projects, requiring good team leadership, good oral and written communication skills. * Good interpersonal skills are needed to build relationships within the vairous related work groups in the company In order to be considered for this position you must complete the entire application process, which includes answering all prescreening questions and providing your eSignature on or before the requisition closing date of March 1, 2013.
