Role

This position will serve as the primary HR contact for a medium department(s) or functional area of supporting several hundred clients. This position reports to a Sr. HR Manager or a HR manager and will have responsibility for all aspects of human resources. Primarily, the HR Relationship Manager will be responsible for interpreting and providing guidance on employment policies, practices and procedures, staffing and other human resource activities. The HR Relationship Manager will also focus on coaching and counseling associates and managers on employment relations, employment law, performance management, benefits and compensation practices and training.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in unit planning meetings and collaborates with directors and managers to proactively identify HR issues and determine optimal customization and application of HR strategies.
  • Consults with all levels of business unit management to develop and implement HR initiatives that will allow managers to meet their business objectives.
  • Provides daily consultation on employee/labor relation issues. This includes employee and management counseling, problem solving with departmental management to avoid legal risk related to any employment laws or TD Ameritrade guidelines. Provides expertise for basic to moderate issues; determines when to escalate and/or seek advice from within the HR department or through our Legal department. These risks include harassment-sexual harassment, any matter relating to discrimination, ADA, ADEA or any EEOC issues.
  • Continually assesses associate satisfaction and business unit climate to ensure business unit objectives can be met. Advises on communication strategies, partners with business unit managers to develop effective communication strategies on the department, team, and individual level. Ensures that the associate perspective is considered in business unit initiatives.
  • Provides compensation service to departmental customers. This includes partnering with Corporate Compensation to deliver timely job evaluation actions, management training on TD Ameritrade compensation practices, effective salary administration, management information regarding compensation financial impact, merit/bonus/promotional counseling to ensure effective management decisions regarding compensation. Educate management on all aspects of pay practices.
  • Participate in service delivery of benefit programs. This includes responding to and resolving employee/management questions or issues with benefit offerings. Provide feedback to TD Ameritrade Corporate Benefits Department on problem areas of benefit plans.
  • Deliver education and counseling to TD Ameritrade workforce on HR practices and guidelines. These include policies, administrative process actions, coordination and communication any new process or programs to workforce.
  • Provide career planning and development counsel to employees and managers. Ensure that tools are in place to aid in career planning.
  • Partners with the HR Recruitment Team in talent acquisition for mainly entry and middle level positions and co-ordinates with the recruiters in managing all day-to-day staffing strategies and methods.
  • Supports HR team by participating in projects such as the redesign of HR processes, the creation of competency based selection tools and applications, and other HR strategies.
  • Provides HR leadership for less experienced HR staff members assigned to the business unit.
  • Provides training on different HR areas such as Harassment, Staffing and Selection, Policy Adherence, Performance Management, etc.

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of critical human resource competencies including but not limited to staffing, organizational development, compensation, benefits administration, employee relations/HR legal issues.
  • Must have excellent technical knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Be able to create and maintain several reports on a regular basis.
  • Experience with relationship building, influencing, effective communication at all organizational levels, project management, change management, problem solving.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in HR with an emphasis in recruitment, consultation or employee relations.
  • Bachelors in Human Resources or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required; certification in HR (Professional Human Resources, PHR or SPHR) and/or functional specialty education in compensation (ACA), benefits (CEBS), training and development (ASTD) preferred.
  • Prior Securities Industry, financial services or technology experience a plus.
