Strategic Market Planning (SMP) develops analytics and strategic insights to inform senior leaders' decision making. Examples include strategy development, market assessments, forecasts, policy issues, and cost/benefit analysis. Issues span several topics and are not restricted to one functional area. The SMP Consultant provides consulting, project management, analytic and technical expertise for a broad array of issues. Has responsibility for large complex multi-dimensional analytical and strategy projects.

Active participation in a range of market strategy projects essential to KP's membership and margin goals. SMP Consultants provide analytical-/strategic-thinking and leadership skills that enable project teams to: 1) isolate business issues, 2) design and execute analytics for studying business issues (market research, forecasting, market share, profitability, etc.), 3) bring technical/content expertise (competitive intelligence, financial analysis, deep data analysis & programming), 4) create compelling documents that make formal recommendations to senior levels of KP leadership. This position focuses on the Federal market.

Essential Functions
Collect and organize membership, rates, economic and competitive data from mainframe files, data warehouse, vendor extracts, departmental spreadsheets, databases, and internet/intranet sites for easy use by internal business and analytical clients.
Use membership, rates, economic and financial data to investigate identified business issues and to address hypotheses.
Create more complex analytical views of membership, rates and market strategy issues, identifying major assumptions and gaps.
Summarize key findings and implications; and, develop conclusions - 'tell the story.'
Manage major membership and rates analytical and/or marketing strategy projects.
Develops analytic framework required to analyze market strategy issues
Sets project and staff priorities
Owns the outcome- represents findings to stakeholders
Serves as subject matter/technical expert to Analysts on membership, rates and market strategy
Develops solutions to complex market strategy problems. May refer to established precedents and policies when making decisions.
Requires significant analysis to develop solutions for complex problem.

This position will travel up to 10% of the time to any of the Kaiser Permanente regions.
Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications
4+ years related experience
4 year degree or 4 additional years of equivalent experience
Thorough knowledge of membership, rates, financial, economic and competitive data
Complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, market strategy practices, and standards
Full knowledge of industry practices
Broad application of principles, theories, and concepts in applicable discipline, plus working knowledge of other related fields
Strong project management skills
Skilled in MS Excel, Access and other databases. Must know how to manipulate databases such as MS Excel and/or Access, as well as manipulating reports and generating reports

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree
5+ years of experience
Knowledge of the Federal market segment, how they approach health care and KP's role in the Federal marketplace
