Janssen Pharmaceuticals Companies of Johnson & Johnson, are recruiting for a Sr. Director, Head of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Research, located in Spring House, PA.

The Sr. Director, Head of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Research reports directly to The Global Head of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Research. The major focus of these activities are in type 2 diabetes and encompass small as well as large molecule capabilities, with full support for the latter from the J&J Cross TA Small Molecule Platform Group and the J&J cross TA Biotechnology group.

Leading the East Coast section of the CV & Metabolism Research Team located in Spring House P.A. to meet strategic research objectives in this therapeutic disease area. Fully contributing to the development and execution of a research strategy focused on identifying unmet clinical needs in the areas of type 2 diabetes as well as developing commercially viable pharmaceutical solutions. Managing and building a world class research and discovery center, consisting of biologists, pharmacologists and technical personnel. Contributing and communicating to the vision for discovery, setting milestones and goals as well as leading tactical execution of research programs to drive and achieve objectives. Making sound scientific and business decisions which lead to the fulfillment of departmental aligned goals. Contributing to building new institutional and Key Opinion Leader (KOL) relationships while maximizing existing KOL relationships and maintaining extensive visibility within the scientific community. Contributing to relevant external alliances and collaborations, exploring and highlighting relevant compounds that could lead to achieving strategic goals.

Qualifications


The candidate must have a minimum of a Ph.D. degree with 12-15 years research experience in pancreatic islet biochemistry and physiology, regulation of insulin and incretin release, as well as signaling transduction and regulation. A Ph.D. or MD/PhD is preferred. Expertise on pancreatic beta-cell lines, islet incubation and perifusion, islet nutrient metabolism and regulation, as well as hyperglycemic clamp are preferred. This position requires a solid scientific knowledge of molecular biology, cell biology, and pharmacology. Experience in drug discovery is preferred. The candidate must demonstrate scientific leadership, strong track record of collaboration and innovation, and written/oral communication skills, including a strong publication record. Experience to lead discovery efforts on both internal and external programs, as well as interfacing with internal and external partners are preferred. Type II diabetes experience is required. Experience supervising cross-functional projects is preferred. Pharma/Biotech and Academic research experience is preferred. Travel up to 10% is required.
