Johnson & Johnson Consumer & Personal Products Worldwide is recruiting for a Research Manager in Support to Marketed Products (SMP) located in Los Angeles, CA.

The SMP Research Manager will be responsible for technical support to the Neutrogena manufacturing facility and general marketed product support for cosmetic, personal care and OTC monograph drug products under Neutrogena Beauty Franchise. This individual will be responsible for providing production support and marketed product life cycle support for the manufacture of semisolids (creams, gels and lotions) and liquid products within Los Angeles Plant (LAP). Project activities and documentation must be complete using good science at a quality level that meets established OTC Monograph, FDA and J&J Quality Compliance standards. This individual will have an active role in team/project activities through hands-on participation, planning, guidance and leadership of team related technical needs; work in a team environment with Operations, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance, Product Development, Technical Transfer, Analytical Development, Microbiology, Regulatory and Marketing Personnel; and is responsible for personnel development of their team members.
The major responsibilities for this position include: Lead technical service support to the LAP manufacturing facility including trouble shooting, remediation and production emergencies; Lead NC and/or CAPA investigations and product impact assessments; Lead business continuity projects related to reformulation, raw material upgrade, process improvement, cost savings, new FDA requirements, manufacturing site transfer, etc.; Work independently and collaboratively across functional groups in accomplishing team project goals and objectives. Additional position duties include: Supervise contractors and junior scientists for project related activities and provide technical guidance; review and approval of technical documents.
Qualifications
A minimum of a B.S degree with 12+ years of professional experience, an M.S degree with 10+ years of professional experience, or a Ph.D. with 8+ years of professional experience. Understanding of cGMPs and current FDA Compliance requirements is a must. Pharmaceutical Experience in process development /validation for Rx or OTC products is required. Formulaiton experience in semi-solids is preferred, however not necessary. Problem solving skills are required: this position must proactively seek solutions; gather and analyze information systematically; develop alternative solutions; think analytically and act decisively. Work independently. First-hand experience in the field of process development/scale-up and technical service for OTC Monograph products is preferred. The successful candidate must competently handle day-to-day work challenges; Thrive in uncertain circumstances; Adapt to changes in the work environment; manage multiple tasks and competing demands; Change approach or method to best fit the situation. Detail oriented and ability to interact independently with all levels of management and our business/research partners both within and outside of J&J in accomplishing team project goals and objectives is required. Has ability to handle multiple responsibilities and projects is also a must. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to strive to attain quality results on time; convey a sense of urgency and drive issues to closure; earn a reputation for reliability and dependability are also required. This position will require proven leadership and technical skills; and the ability to make timely and sound decisions, take risks and manage them intelligently.
