DePuy Mitek is the Sports Medicine business offering orthopaedic sports medicine products, soft tissue repair devices, joint movement solutions and minimally invasive and arthroscopic solutions.

As part of the Mitek NPD organization, this position will have responsibility to support manufacturing process development activities for new medical devices. This position will be responsible for collaborating with R&D engineers to develop new product designs in a cross-functional team environment, specifically to develop innovative manufacturing solutions for single use implantable devices and reusable instruments. The position will be responsible for establishing the relationship between product design features & the selected methods required to manufacture the product, with focus on those designs that require machine shop capabilities for manufacturing. Provide detailed assessments and critical Design for Manufacturing review of engineering designs/drawings of components and assemblies. Assess the design intent, manufacturability, proper dimensioning and tolerancing of components and assemblies to allow product to transition into the manufacturing environment. This position will manage the manufacturing of prototypes used in NPD, including selecting the most appropriate prototype methods and executing prototype development to support new product design trials. This position will complete financial estimates of component and assembly Cost of Goods Sold. Provide analysis and recommendations for feature / mfg cost tradeoffs during the design phase of new products. Develop comprehensive, cost effective manufacturing strategies, including supplier selection, to drive product team decisions on sourcing to achieve cost and time targets.

Qualifications


A minimum of 6 years of engineering experience with BS in an Engineering discipline, preferably in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Material Science or 4 years of experience with MS in Engineering is required. A minimum of 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment with responsibility for process development, cycle time, yield and cost improvements is required. The successful candidate must have experience working in medical device or similar regulated industry. Knowledge in the application of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), including industry best practices and experience in applying DFM to new product designs is required. Use of process improvement techniques such as 6 sigma and lean is preferred. Proficient ability to read and interpret engineering drawings is required. Experience writing and executing equipment and process validations is a must. Experience working with an integrated cross-functional new product development team is highly desirable. This position may require international and domestic travel up to 10%.
